I read and understood your tl;dr, and I recognized that we were making the same point. The point of my reply was that it seems counterproductive to say arguing about semantics is lame right after doing the same thing. It kind of comes off as "Here's the last word," which is silly to do in an open thread if you're trying to play defuser/mediator, IMO. And really, even if some find semantics lame, that doesn't mean everyone does (obviously). As someone said earlier, the OP started with an assumption that not everyone holds to be true. Makes sense that they'd say so here.

My "policing the thread" remark wasn't solely directed at you. If I came off defensive, I apologize. I've already said what I wanted to say on the "Is The Operator Slenderman?" subject, so at this point I don't feel I have a horse in that race. (And for the record, I've begun rereading the SA thread to find more differences, as the OP has asked for, but I've yet to find any that haven't been mentioned already.) I'm just concerned that by restricting the conversation, we could be missing out on hearing some insightful opinions on the wider topic--especially since many seem to be interested in it, and a separate "Is the Operator Slenderman?" thread might be considered redundant. It seems to me that if the OP doesn't want both topics discussed here, the wiser course of action might be approaching a mod about splitting it, rather than leaving grumpy replies about it. If a mod says no, then ok, let this topic take its natural course.

Tl;dr: There's room for OP's "defining differences" and the more semantic "are there differences?" within one thread. They're rather linked topics, and the board seems to favor the neatness of longer, broader threads over smaller, specific ones. Just my observations; maybe I'm wrong, and if so, I'd welcome correction from a mod.

Well no, what I did was present everybody's arguments at the same time. Read 5) and 5b) one more time. I posed valid reasons for both sides' points (both that Slender Man = Operator and Slender Man != Operator) which kind of made my point - nobody will be 'right' (or, everybody can be 'right') and people getting irritated over semantics in an argument that can't be won is silly.

And honestly, I hope you don't mistake my distaste for this particular conversation for wanting to only discuss one very narrow subject. Clearly branching topics don't bother me - I just had a short discussion about Batman fighting Slender Man (see above… well, and below - technically I'm still having it I guess Razz ). The 'does Slender Man = Operator' discussion already happened, but it's four pages in and there hadn't been anything but that discussion, and it really doesn't address what was the OP proposed. 'tis all. It just seems pointless after a point to me, though I'm sure a thread that started 'THE OPERATOR IS NOT SLENDER MAN!!! DISCUSS!!! (IF YOU DISAGREE YOU ARE A DOUCHE AND A PENISHEAD!)' would go on for about 20 pages, so take that for what you will. Razz Haha.

Clearly, the conversation the OP wanted to have can happen - we're having it now, and (apart from this back-and-forth) the other topic really is not being discussed any more. I'm fine, and in all honesty don't really see any more point in beating this horse any longer unless you'd still like to talk about it (but, in that case, maybe we move it to PMs, since our discussion about this discussion probably doesn't make much sense to have in this thread, haha Razz ). Got nothing against you, man - as pointed out in another thread, if I met you all in real life, we'd probably just chill and talk about how awesome MH is and be totally cool with each other. Even Randoman and punxtr might get along! Wink Haha!

Well put on everything, redherring! I find it refreshing actually that in Mh they don't flatout link TO with his internet name or the internet at all. Also, I forgot all about the mention of organ-removal in 38, so now I'm eagerly anticipating some bags in trees in a future entry.

Yeah, I love the way MH handled the mythos within their universe. They obviously acknowledged SA when they started off their trailhead, and they acknowledge Twitter. But they chose to keep Facebook, other Slenderblogs/vlogs, unFiction, ARGnet, etc. (and even the Slenderman mythos) out of their story. They haven't gone 'OMG I FOUND SLENDERMAN ON WIKIPEDIA THAT MUST BE WHAT THIS IS!' because in their story, those Wikipedia entries don't exist. (And, for good reason - those articles were created kind of in response to the huge fandom that came from the community that SA/MH started.)

yeah he fought dracula in a DTV and the predator was in a comic and fan film

Oh goodness, haha! ^__^'' The supernatural elements of the Batman universe always disinterested me, I love the more gritty/realistic storylines (well, as far as 'Guy in a latex suit fights crime' can be realistic). Razz

That said, I'd be totally cool with Batman fighting the Slender Man. Very Happy

I've got nothing against you either. It's not personal at all. I'd just never seen people react this way to unwinnable arguments--and there seems to be A LOT of unwinnable arguments around these parts. Wink I wouldn't have said anything if it weren't for the merging-threads issue I mentioned. If people *do* still want to debate "Is he or isn't he?", they should be free to do so, but if they can't do it here nor make a new thread, what then, y'know?

That said, I'm not interested in bashing this into the ground either, and the conversation is moving on anyway.

The Slender family includes Slenderman, the Operator, Splendorman, and Slendamon. You're welcome.
