People are saying that the lighter is evidence that Alex burned Jay's apartment down, but it seems more likely that the lighter was found with the tape because Alex planned on burning the tape at some point. Maybe that's why Alex went to the tunnel in #49 in the first place, because it's an ideal place to burn tapes.

Theory time:

Alex planned to do show something to Jay/kill Jay, but when Jay mentioned he heard footsteps, Alex decided that it wasn't the time to do so.

He didn't have a camera with him because he wanted no evidence of what happened.

I like this train of thought.

Or he could have just said "fuck it" to bringing a camera. After all, when he pulled in, Jay already had his camera out, pointed at Alex. And Alex DID bring a camera, it was in his passenger's seat. We see it around 1:56.

Didn't seem to bother him before... er, after...

Bruce didn't matter, after all there's not even a missing person's report out on him. Razz

Or he'd just help himself to Jay's camera. I bet that's how film students graduate--dead man's camera.

4. The tape - What could be so important that is on this tape that Jay had to attempt twice to steal it? Had he any tip off from before that this tape was important? Again, we'll probably see this in Entry 51, so no spec for now from me.

YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT'S ON THAT TAPE, DO YOU!?

Alex wants to dispose of both Jay and Jessica.

I can think of no other explanation for his wanting them both in the forest at the same time. He seems to know that if Jay were to go missing Jessica would be alerted about him -- and so in this entry he realises he has brought Jay into the forest for no reason and lets him go for that day.

I agree with you here. Later, Alex might get both Jay and Jessica to come into the forest where they will get memory-wiped (and maybe Ninja Hoody gets killed)?

But but but... Hoody can't die... he's supposed to be getting the snacks!

We haven't seen hoodie in a while.

I kind of think Bruce was hoodie and well he's dead now.

Operator: JAY, I AM SORRY BUT I NOW MUST RETURN HOME. I MUST RETURN TO MY PEOPLE.

Alternatively: Soon we shall return to the moon-drenched shores of our...beloved planet. Sweet Transexual, Land of Night, we'll sing and dance once more to you dark refrain. To take that...step to the right. HA! But it's the pelvic THRUST (that really drives you insane-ane-aneaneaneeeee). And our world will do the Time Warp AGAINNNNN!

oh come on, those are being done with love for UF!

but on a serious note, tons of people keep lighters in their drawers. I see it all the time in office buildings. But the fact that Alex has a lighter at all reminded me of how Jay's old apartment got burned down. I blame Alex now.

Is it possible that the apartment fire was unrelated and was a red herring? I mean, it could just be a way for Troseph to progress the story and keep Jay moving...

To be honest, I thought it was Slendy that burned his apartment down. Neutral It's been a while since I saw that entry, but I do remember seeing Slendy in the crowds during the news story about the fire.

It also seems to be implied in the interrogation passage that Alex knows Jay does have the key. He knows more than it should be possible to know.

More than it should be possible to know? If someone broke into your house, and you caught him trying to steal something of yours, you wouldn't be able to put two and two together if something else important goes missing? It wasn't rocket science.

Hang on, there's a thing. Jay's flight in #46 wasn't exactly subtle. He stops at the door, turns the light on the key, grabs it, and then takes off again. So Alex standing there with a clear view of him leaving, even in the dark, should have seen that and known damn well he had the key.

Or is this one of those suspension of disbelief moments?

... ^That

but even if Alex DIDN'T see him... it's pretty f****n obvious.

So now I am trying to think, what could happen in the next couple entries that would give us a good excuse for the gap between seasons 2 and 3?

Another memory wipe? Super lame if they did it but it could work.

Jay finds a clue to where Alex is now but it's halfway across the country. Once he gets there he realizes Alex has already been and gone and he comes back home for Season three.

Alex finds Jay and tries to hurt him so Jay decides to lay low for a few months instead of broadcasting from YouTube and Twitter.

Somehow we find out Alex ain't so bad and he and Jay team-up but Alex makes Jay promise to not post anything until they are done.

Jay dies in real time. He gets killed by someone and someone else takes up the task of putting up videos so he will not have died in vain.

I really wanna see #51 now.

Love this theory. It makes so much sense because what did Alex originally want to do with the Marble Hornets tapes?

Jay realizes Tim's got the right idea, but Tim refuses to let him into the gang until he undergoes a proper ninja training montage.
