Making a good Slender Man

I've used Google, and found that there are several different ways of making a decent Slender Man. However, I'm kind of on a budget.

I was thinking of a white morph suit and a regular black suit and tie, but then the issue regarding height comes up. Slender Man is usually 7 - 9 feet tall, to make him seem more inhuman and intimidating. Someone suggested Painters Stilts, and I'll probably try and save some money for getting them if I can't find a cheaper substitute.

What would you do for a 'convincing' Slender Man?

If I'm posting this on the wrong board, I apologize.

I'm doing a pale skin morphsuit, black suit, black tie, white button up shirt, and drywall stilts. Works pretty well.

Sounds good. The distortion would be a good way of making anything that can be seen through the fabric less noticeable.

I was thinking of just standing on something for shots where he's not mobile and at a distance/behind an object that would be taller than the average human, like a wall.

If he's behind something like a couch or low wall, standing on something is perfect. Also, yeah, that's one of the reasons the distortion is used xD

Any kind of perspective trick. Filming from a low angle, standing beside something, posing beside a miniature version of a larger object, filming a 1st & 2nd story window but claiming they're the same one, etc. It just becomes a question of whether you want to save money or effort.

It really can't be said enough. The less you see of Slendy when he makes an appearance, the better. Suspense is a powerful ally. Make it so he could be around the next corner, or behind the next door. Give fleeting glimpses. Use shadow and noise to alert us that our tall friend is here to pay a visit.

And above all else, don't cram him in every entry.

Thanks for that. Yeah, I didn't plan on putting him in every entry, because then it becomes predictable, and from how I've seen it, that's the opposite of Slender Man. He's enigmatic, and if he shows up every single time he's mentioned, then there's no real scare to it.

Alright, so: Drywall Stilts, perspective, and be careful with how he appears so it's not predictable, but also use moderation with his appearances. Thanks, UF. Hopefully the series gets off the ground.

Thanks. Also, the whole 'vlog gone horribly wrong' thing seems to have been done to death. Does anyone have a suggestion for something else?

You could try to work with more aspects of the original mythos maybe? Or you could work with less of the cliches started by Marble Hornets and come up with some more original ideas. You could have Slender Man be very aggressive and animalistic, or maybe a more human acting master mind.

Also; try giving him another suit color besides black. Dark gray or pinstriped with a vest would be great. Or if you want to go Victorian - which I highly recommend - try a black frock coat.

As you can tell, I'm a fashion buff. Just keep these things in mind.

Slendy in a frock coat, I can see that.

Good suggestions all around. Another suggestion I would have, though this goes for filming, make sure the audience knows Slendy is there in the background. I've seen several Slendy vlogs where the camera shakes too much, or doesn't focus well enough, that the only way I know Slendy is there is because the characters are freaking out. Then just add distortion in post.

Sort of a sub-debate here is if you want your Slender Man to move around in your videos. This could be either end up well done (and creepy) or just look silly (and therefore ruin the atmosphere).

Well, I was thinking of having him immobile until shortly before the 'infighting' occurs. Whenever there are group ARGs, there's always a point where the group starts fighting amongst themselves, due to stress, fear, or something else. I want Slendy's form of psychological torture that we all love him for to be something that breaks down each character, and makes him even more terrifying to the viewer. There are so many good Slender Man ARGs, but there are also ones that didn't exactly work out. I want to be the former, and I'm trying to learn as much as I can about Slendy as possible, because I really only know him from the stuff you find on Youtube and the more popular blogs. So, I'm reading his creepypasta, how he came to be, and some more blogs to see how other people have done him and to compare that to his origin.

Another big thing, should I script it or just give an outline of the scenario to the people involved? Scripts tend to feel unnatural, and even though the people I'm having help with this are fairly decent actors, I want it to be as natural to the audience as possible. I was thinking of the latter, but sometimes that could end up poorly. I have a lot of these things planned out, how it happens, how they react, but I'm not sure exactly how to put it into action. I guess that's a bad thing for a director, but we're still in planning stages.

I used a suit and stockings.
No stilts needed, just good perspective tricks. I hunched down when I filmed him.

There are always cheap ways of getting. around budget constraints. Instead of a body suit, you could just wrap a grey shirt around your head. Always film so that the guy can stand on a box or what not. Those kind of things
