Agreed here actually.

If season 3 has season 1-quality Entries and season 2-standard TTA vids, I would be very very happy.

Kindly fuck yourself.

From what I see, they made the DVD out of fanservice, and I'm glad it sold well. They deserve to be rewarded.

Kindly fuck yourself in turn. I'm not sorry the DVDs exist. I'm just saying that there are reasons why people who like immersion might not enjoy season 2 as much as season 1, and part of that seems to be a creative decision on the part of Troy and company to make immersion less of a high priority.

If you want to argue that that isn't the case, go right ahead. But don't run around grabbing other forum users by the neck and screaming at them just because they express an opinion you don't like. It makes you look as though you are exactly the sort of aggressive, rude, pushy, bullying little runt your detractors say you are.

Yeah, that was a bit over the top Rando.

As for Troy and co. being less worried about immersion, I would say it's all up to the viewer. Not all followers of MH know of the series' creators and their shenanigans outside of it. To be honest, I sometimes wish I kept my MH interest exclusively to MH without figuring out who's behind the creation of the mystery. That's why season 1 was special, as most have said.

I definitely want to be like the moderate viewers sometimes - just following the MH twitter and checking out the new entry in my sub box. Probably would be more effective. Once you watch stuff like Joseph Plays a Trumpet, you can't really forget about it can you?

That said, season 2 is still immensely enjoyable and some of my favorite entries are within it. 33, 35, etc. For the most part, the buildup's culmination is beyond rewarding. Also love the TTA videos this season.

I think there's another factor. When you first watch all the Marble Hornets entries at once with relatively no idea what's going on, the level of fear you get makes you want to hide under a rock for the rest of your life. I think a lot of people on the forum, and in the community in general, watched all or most of season 1 at once, and absorbing that much fear at once is incomparable. I don't think very many people on the forum has watched all the entries so far at once. We've been watching it as it comes out. Maybe some people have been watching since Entry #3, but most of us haven't. So it's kinda different in that sense. Once season 2 is over I'm gonna watch the whole season at once, and once season 3 is over, I'm gonna watch the whole series at once. And that's going to be a fun night indeed.

Yeah, that was a bit over the top Rando.

I was getting the impression awakeasaurusrex was accusing them of selling out by releasing the DVD, and in turn caring less about the story, and reacted. As that is not the case, I apologize for my reaction, though I stand by my statement that you are nitpicking.

I think of it like a trilogy (cuz it is a trilogy technically). The first season we were all being exposed to a completely new story and it made us shit brix and get mind fucked. That's when everyone raves about the first season and how awesome the sequel will be and how they want all their questions answered. But season 2 is just more of a bridge into season 3. It asks more questions and reveals a couple things (Tim being masky) but it all leads to some huge cliffhanger for season 3. Then in season 3 the huge questions like who is the operator and what does he want with Alex/Jay/everyone.

I think that although season 1 scared me MORE, season 2 scared me WORSE. Entries 40, 43, and 46 were some of the scariest in the whole series for me. However, my all time most scary is #14. Overall I would say that 1 is scarier, 2 is still frightening when it can be but focuses more on plot, and something tells me that season 3 will be the best out of them all.

Er... I'd say that overall S1 was a lot more consistant on quality; but S2 has REALLY good entries (i.e. #35, #40, #46, and #49). So... I can't decide.

Hard to rank seasons of a show with a constantly streaming narrative. Always just kinda saw it as one big season myself, the breaks put in for the benefit of the people who make it.

That right there.

Edit: Left some things out! Derp!

When I started with MH, it was with the entirety of Season 1 already completed. I watched all of the entries and TTA videos in a day and a half. It was intense - I hadn't been that freaked out by something so 'simple' in a long time. The story was multi-faceted - not too deep in terms of themes or anything, but it didn't feel unnatural (in spite of its supernatural elements).

Then about two weeks later, Season 2 started. I had already taken the liberty of reading through the forums, checking out the Q&A Troy and Joseph did (and was still at this point having trouble remembering which one was which), and listened in on the radio interviews. The interviews led me to Troy's OOG channel (obviously) and then his Twitter and Facebook.

And then Season 2.

Right off the bat, I was in love again. For one, it was finally being shown in HD. Wink On a much more substantial note, though, I realized that this season was trying to focus more on developing Jay, becoming much more character-driven in its plot instead of the elusive protagonist looking through some old tapes and uncovering more disturbing things along the way.

No, this time we all already knew that shit was bad. Up through Entry #26, we were introduced to Tall Pale and Faceless, his abilities, and his apparent minion(s) in TTA/Masky. Now we awake, months later, with a protagonist much less afraid of showing what's going on with his own life, which has now become just as much a mystery as Alex's was in Season 1.

This wasn't about 'oh man I found more disturbing things!' any more. This was 'oh gosh things are happening to me and I'm just reacting to them and throwing it up here what the hell happened over the past seven months aaah!' Then we found the vault o' tapes, and began trying to figure out that seven months (after promptly being chased by a limpy masked Timothy). Jay went deep into hiding, which is a bit of a development itself, since up through Season 1 and (as we'd find out) during the seven months he was pretty freakin' awful at it.

As we saw, Jay did a lot of derping around, found Alex (HOLY CRAP MOMENT!), unmasked Tim (obvious, but still HOLY CRAP MOMENT!), then started looking for Amy. We learned more about the chest camera footage we saw. We realized that Alex wasn't such a friendly guy, and might even be as dangerous as (or moreso than) TTA, Masky, Hoody, or even the Operator himself.

It was frustrating at points, I'll admit. We got more and more questions, and fewer and fewer answers. When the answers did come, they still failed to answer some long-standing questions. That has a certain allure itself, but by the late 40's I was wondering when we'd start getting some more substantial answers. I was also frustrated with the pace, even though I realize why it needs to happen in the story the way Troy and company want to tell it (and also realize that Troy and company have very busy and conflicting schedules that don't always work out best for we fans! Razz ). Jay's derping also got a bit old at times, which is forgivable to an extent in all honesty, but after a while I'd hoped to see the guy realize 'oh hey, I'm being kind of an idiot here, maybe I should do something differently'.

But here we are, right off the mixed feelings of Entry #50. As it turns out, Alex may be our antagonist after all, and how that plays out is going to be huge, since Season 3 is going to have to resolve what happens to him, what happens to Jay, and present us with how they're going to live on (or… not) once all is said and done.

So now that Season 2 is finally coming to its close, I don't think it's so easy to answer 'which do I like better?' I like them both for different reasons - the scares, innovation, and grit of Season 1… the story, characters, and mystery of Season 2. Season 2 had some misses - the focus on developing story ahead of time meant a much more cohesive and consistent storytelling experience, but it also drew out things a lot more than off-the-cuff planning might have done. Season 3 has a chance to be amazing, taking the strengths of both seasons and bringing them together.

Ultimately, it's about the whole picture for me. Some shows have absolutely incredible first seasons, then fall off a cliff afterwards (Heroes is a notable example for me, personally). Marble Hornets hasn't had that problem, in my opinion. Season 2 is definitely different, but only your opinion/taste can dictate whether it's really any better or worse, and for me it's neither - it's just as good, and part of an overarching story that I just can't get enough of.

Guess I'm a diplomat at heart - I know each season has its faults, but I love them both for what they get so so right.

Maybe that's all a really drawn-out half-answer, but it's my opinion dammit, and you asked for it. Wink

I think it's unfair to say they're less interested in immersion this season. I mean I still see people on youtube asking things like "Is it real?", and honestly, to me it does still seem very real. The only aspect of season 2 so far that I think is just a little unrealistic is the length of time between certain entries, but then those guys have had a lot of shit to deal with while making season 2, jobs, school, moving, storms, the works. Though that's just within the context of the story-telling, and doesn't include the fact that there's a link to the DVD page on the Youtube channel. And yeah, that does kinda confirm that it's a show to anyone who maybe wasn't sure, but then what else could he do. Spent money to produce the DVDs, had to make sure they got sold. Basically my point is whatever "hurt" the immersion of this season was a result of factors beyond their control. That said, I also think it's unfair to tell people to fuck themselves for disagreeing.

That's damn near exactly how I got into it, only I did it significantly later, had finished watching everything about a week before entry 32 came out. As far as for it not being deep in terms of themes, talk to tjide. She's had some very interesting things to say on that subject.

I have to say the hotel entries where decent, they at the time where somewhat suspenseful. But also Jay acted like a complete idiot, when he extended his stay there.
Come on, even if there are answers at the hotel, you are being followed by an insane masked freak, you stay away from places he supposedly dropped you of at.

I honestly like Season 2 better. I do love the feeling of extreme isolation and the creepiness of first season, but I really enjoy some of the action, suspense, and mystery of the second. I mean, both seasons have all of those qualities, I just feel like Season 2 has a stronger feeling of those specific ones I mentioned for it, if that makes any sense.

My personal overall favorites from S2 are: #29, #33, #35, #37, #45, #47, and #49. There are others worth mentioning, but they are only interesting/suspenseful at specific parts (#40, #41, #43, #46, #50).

Season 1 is still awesome though.

I loved season 1 for its scare factor... season 2 has a great plot line. Therefore, I choose both.

I have to say that Season 2's TotheArk responses are undoubtedly creepier, and fantastically more puzzling

but I miss Jay going into abandoned houses and hearing Masky cough as he walks in. That is undeniably scarier than the patented OPERATOR POW of Season 2.
