 		Another question - How do we know that Caretaker is not Turgenov?
I know Caretaker refers to Turgenov in the third person but could that be a cover? I couldn't find direct confirmation of this. I'm sure it's here somewhere

The first few e-mails and chats with Caretaker, Caretaker described seeing the professor on CSPAN, using a new name as he testified before congress. Then we have the fact that he still has contacts inside the CIA that he learned about Konamouse's doppleganger showing up and in what condition she showed up in. Is it possible that the Professor would have those contacts, yes, it is possible, but probably unlikely, especially if he has been busy with his research. However we do have Jake (under the nick name Shift) telling us that Caretaker's name is all over the documents, and the only name we have "seen" is the professor's.

The professor was at the Coyote dispatch news conference with Jake, but so was a silent Caretaker in the chat room with us, as Jake was arrested.

My question - she is a math professor (who teaches two variable calculus) from "scandanavia" and was the geneology society lady from the pre-game. Is she related to Steve Lake?
The math faculty is listed in a different format than the departmental faculties. Could she know Turgenev? or have known him at Espoo under his old name?

Also - the NRU President's welcome letter mentions the library but it isn't on the map? [neither is the gym but it might be in the student union]

 		Since there are no coincidences in an ARG universe, I had assumed the Lake relationship as well, but nothing happening there so far. Until something actually happens with her, she could also just be window dressing. So we keep our eyes open and see what develops...

 		Just wanted to say, Hi. I am new to the game (and ARGs in general). I did play Majestic (but that doesn't count does it?). Anyway, this is all very cool.

I have read the forums and have familiarized myself with all the characters and goings on. I think I am pretty current with the crossword puzzle (although I have nothing to add at this time Embarassed ).

Anyway, here I am. I am a computer graphics artist and handy at manipulating images and what not. I do have a better than average knowledge of the (prostestant) Bible and am attacking the crossword from that angle.

I really like the 4 Horsemen theory, but haven't gotten farther than that.

 		Hi Edge. I am new too and this is a good group of people. I am stuck on the crossword but it is my personal belief that there is more to it than just reading the Bible passages.

Also, I don't think that 8141 stands for John, at least in reference to the crossword. But I haven't come up with any solutions that get us anywhere.

Have you tried to figure out who is Caretaker??

PS you and all other new (and old) players should chat. the acheron room is not happening but go to unfiction.

If you have problems with the java apps locking up your computer, you can try mIRC. It works well with my old (5 years, Win 98 system). If you can't get there, a number of us have AIM/Yahoo/Trillian IMs. I'll try to remember to turn mine back on, but the more things I have open, the slower it all runs.

Addlepated has put up her nice guide here

There is also a guide/trail at Collective Detective that Grumpyboy has done which is also very good. You may need to sign up for it in order to see it though (registration is free).

If you are more adventurous you may want to check out the WIKI that Sapagoo started and I have been updating as time allows and the spirit moves me (did I remember to tell everyone that ANYONE can update the WIKI? Well you can!)

You probably noticed that the Acheron section here on the unforums have several boards:

General/Updates: This is for questions, comments, Off topic/humor, and any new sites discovered and updates to old sites. It is also the place to discuss various plot points, character backgrounds, make speculations, ask questions that may have to do with ARGs in general, but came up from your participation in Acheron.

Quick Reference: This is only for new sites discovered, whois information, character backgrounds, and verified active log-in IDs and passwords. This is not the board for discussion, it is only for resource information.

Interaction: this is where game related chat logs, e-mail, phone calls, snail mail, receipt of items, in person contact that come from in-game characters are placed and discussed. Puzzles given in interaction may be listed here, but the puzzle portion should be discussed in the Puzzle section

Puzzles: This board has the most overlap with the others mentioned so far. Anything that needs a solution is discussed here, this includes puzzles given in interaction, from site updates, e-mail, phone calls, etc.

Pre-game: This involved the teaser mini quest that happeded back on December2002-early 2003, and some discussion before the game got underway in September. It is now locked, which means there will be no new messages posted there.

 		Here are the beginnings of my questions:

1. We know Caretaker is ex CIA? Do we know who Caretaker is working for now? Another company, another branch of government, or perhaps he has his own agenda?

2. Classfied document about the earthquake says "resulted in 40,000 casualties, including an estimated 25,000 deaths". Huh? Isn't a casualty a death?

3. How do you pronounce Archeron?

4. How do you pronounce Fock? I pronounced it to rhyme with sock, my husband tells me it should rhyme with soak.

5. Do we know what happened to Spectrum after Turgenev/Zeladzny defected?

6. Do we know why Caretaker needed a month away?

7. Has there been evidence that Caretaker can jump around in time, or is this just spec?

8. Jake works for Zeladzny.. right? But, he's helping Caretaker... right? Did Caretaker put him in that position, or did Caretaker recruit him after he took the position. Or do we know?

I'm still getting caught up (obviously), but those are my questions as I'm making my way.

All our discussions have led us to believe that he is e-CIA, primarily the chat logs and the one page that discusses SPECTRUM and the CIA's interest in Turgenev. He referes to his work with the government in the past tense. Who is he working for now. He hasn't named an employer or the possiblity of one. That topic is strictly spec at this point.

Casualty can also mean wounded. 40K means dead and wounded.

Acheron: both "Ah-cheron" and "AK-eron" are considered to be correct.

Got me. I have been pronouncing it as you do so it rhymes with sock, but I suppose it could also be pronounced like "Folk."

Nothing definite. I would speculate that with their lead investigator gone, it is a much smaller and slower moving group than it was.

He needed to go locate more contacts and dig up more information (per chat). The real reason has to do with Real life interferance with the PMs.

Caretaker has never jumped around in time nor has that speculation been made about Caretaker. It is JAKE STARKEY that we suspect of being the time jumper, and while he has left information for us that could have only been placed by someone time travelling, it appears that he has not started that travel yet.

Jake works for the Professor. I think the relationship is that Caretaker is helping Jake more than the other way around. Caretaker hopes to get additional information through Jake, once Jake is back on the project. (My Speculation only).

ChainedLightning: You might remember the thoughtmap from the Metacortex ARG. I have been trying to make one for Acheron in an attempt to get myself more familiar with the characters and how they relate to one another. It is online, but I am not yet sure how accurate it is. For instance, there is no connection, not even spec, between Jake and Caretaker shown. It's one thing to live through an ARG and know what's going on, and another to pick up on one secondhand. Smile

And I've been pronouncing it all three ways, along with a fourth, everytime I see the word, and it's driving me crazy Shocked I'll just give it another name to use in my head when I read it, archie will work.

Yes, I remember the thoughtmap, and yes, that's cool. You need to connect Stephen Lake to L3, and to Jake.

Your thoughtmap also reminded me of something I'd wondered before, how Jim Telehan ties into all of this. He's taken the Dispatch down, and will be bringing it back up when Caretaker tells him to, right? Or is it possible that it's been taken down to keep Caretaker from posting a want ad? (yeah, I know the break was really just to allow the PM's to take care of real life, but won't this theoretically need to be woven into the story somehow).
