 		[Theory] [Observation] The Shadow
Yes, another theory. I only bring it up now, because of Entry #51. During #22, Alex said something that was not true, whether he knew it or not. There was also the first appearance of the "unique" shadow that passed over his face. The sound of a door operating is distinct as well. The evidence of the Operator being there seems good, considering our new knowledge that he can be present without so much distortion. There is significant distortion at the end, which is reminiscent of...

Flash-forward to Entry #32. Very similar distortion, randomly occurring only during Jessica's speech for the most part. Jay's speech does get distorted near the end. The Operator makes his entry here as well, and the shadow makes yet another appearance. He doesn't use a door--he teleports, causing a visual tear. I'm not sure if this is an intentional difference. However, Jay telling Jessica to leave her door open is also interesting, in that Jay may have noticed the door being operated in Entry #22 as well.

(Maybe he wanted to limit the Operator's movements? I mean, the Operator is sneaky, so forcing him to open a door instead of teleport would give Jay more time to react. Major assumptions here, so I'm not giving it as much emphasis as the rest of my points. Funny thing is, Jay closes his door. Perhaps the door teleportation allowed the Operator to successfully move into Jessica's room? Are there rules to this? Razz)

Okay, where am I getting with this? Jay acted quite unlike himself at the end, actually offering to tell Jessica everything. This may be a flat out lie (allowing the disappearing act to take place), or it may be a part of his personality where he trusted someone in person more than us, his viewers.

There is also the possibility that Jessica was lying about her situation as well, playing off of Jay's paranoia. This seems unlikely, considering Jessica seems aloof sometimes in entries (e.g. when she is unaware her own friend Amy is missing, merely taking Alex's word for it).

I'm leaning toward Jessica being sincere, and Jay lying. But, they could both be telling the truth, yet there was a reason the Operator was there. There needs to be.

Yet, perhaps the Operator was trying his hand, and didn't get what he intended. Or, maybe he did. Maybe the Operator merely checked up on what the two mind-wiped people knew. I posit that the Operator also wiped Alex's memory after the events of what he did during Entry #22, and was left in that room unaware of what he did. Of course, the shadow being the Operator making sure that Alex truly forgot.

Alex encountered the shadow again, during Entry #44, a comparably short time after strangely lying to Jessica that Amy was okay. Another checkup?

If anything one has to take anything from this, the Shadow correlates to an act where the Operator may have noticeably altered the thoughts, emotions, or memories of those present.

 		you know... tht is one of the best theories explaining the shadow in 22 0.0
but if TO caused tht shadow, why wouldn't he cause the normal distortion? Because he wants Jay to find it? or because he didn't realize the camera was on?(assuming tht TO makes the distortion on purpose, and tht TO is relativly new to the whole camera thing)

Huh, I've been waiting for a good theory on this. The shadow at the end of Entry #22 always creeped me out.

Well, we've been watching all of the entries, so Jay shouldn't need to explain anything for us. Jessica had probably never even remembered the Operator outside of her memories. Jay was making a good move to try to get Jessica on his side. She was already having similar experiences and he could have finally had someone to watch his back. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, THE STRAIGHT SHIPPERS GET SOMETHING TO CHEW ON!

i think what ur meaning to say is: Jessica can't remember TO because she doesn't have any memory of him, visually or in any other way. She doesn't have any memory of him beacause she got her brain wiped clean, just like jay

Jessica actually had memories of the Operator stalking her during her childhood.

o yeah.... but she never rlly mentioned them, just tht shes had weird dreams, but thts not specific to her child hood

She did mention them. She mentioned that she remembered "something" stalking her when she was a child, so it is specific to her.

Oh seriously? i gotta go look at tht again XD

But, yeah, i think the shadow might have been someone goofing off, it looked cool, and they used it, i mean, this is in season one, and they weren't planning for the future quite as much
