In other words, -unless this is the mystery tape and it was filmed by somebody else- Jay's stumbling around in a dangerous place, at night, AGAIN. Honestly, I would forgive Youtube and Google all their sins if they gave me the ability to reach through my monitor and slap him.

You would think that after 4 years, 7 months of lost memory, nearly being shot, more than a few close encounters with tall, dark and faceless and a couple of beatdowns, he would be a little smarter than "Hey, I should go running around in the woods. Alone. At night. Again. What could go wrong?"

Not really. He was fine for a while after his apartment was burned down. He went back to help Alex. After figuring out alex was bad he could have just left it alone but he kept pushing it. Even after season 2 ended he could have just walked away, he hadn't been bothered by the operator for well over a year at that point, but he went and found tim to continue it.

His main motive at this point is, like he said, finding Jessica bc he feels responsible for her dissapearance.

Plus, after all he said in #75 about how he wasn't doing anything before he started watching the tapes but now he was at least doing something makes me think he almost wanted this, to feel useful or like he was making some sort of difference. Maybe that's why he jumped back into the whole mess so quickly after he got the Alex and Amy tape. It gave him an excuse to keep going.

Well he actually said he couldn't even remember what he was doing before all this, which given the context of the series is way creepier and worrisome than anyone seems to give it credit for. But yeah that could also just imply he wasn't really doing anything with his life... Making this a coming of age tale, paralleling the student film Marble Hornets... Surprised

But yeah the reason given for him to still be involved is Jessica.

I honestly didn't give much thought to this line originally- my general thought is that he simply didn't have much of a life before this all started (also explaining why he doesn't seem to have anyone to turn to or anyone worried about him). But supposing he did? I'd postulated before at some point that maybe Jay had family or friends and just severed contact with them somewhere arond the end of S1 or start of S2 to keep more people from getting pulled in.

But what if he actually did have family and friends and a life and the reason he doesn't remember and none of them seem to have come looking for him is that they've all been wiped from existence by TO, similar to what implicitly happened to Beardy from 49?

Not necessarily likely, but still. More inclined to lean towards my initial assumption, though.

Jay under Slendy's influence or just due to the events of whatever happened, became desperate to surrive and tried to kill or sacrafice his fellow cast members to stop being caught up in Slendy's grasp.

I DON'T WANT JAY TO BE EVIL.

HE'S MY FAVOURITE CHARACTER.

AND HE'S KIND OF PRETTY.

AND I KNOW THIS IS THE MOST OBVIOUS CONCLUSION IN THE WORLD.
