When does a potential ARG become an ARG?

I hope this is the right place to post..... I was wondering what it takes for a suspect ARG to move from the 'news and rumours' forum into the main games discussion forum... Is it number of people playing? Certainty of a particular trail being a game or what?? Hmmm I've been pondering this for a while

Historically, it's when the playerbase has asked for a subforum for the game, because it will help their organization/solving/socializing/etc.

There is no hard and fast rule, because no two games are exactly the same, and the playerbase tends to define the play space. Smile

i think its a fairly simple definition between the two to be honest. an ARG with no players is a potential ARG, and an ARG with people actively playing, trying to gain information and influence the plot, that is a real ARG.
even if only a couple of people properly play it, or its a small channel, as long as there are those few that follow it and play along, then it is an ARG, in my eyes anyway.
i know of a channel with 36 subscribers and an average of 50 views per video, and that seems to be doing well with the ARG side of things. it doesnt need to be a huge operation like EMH, it just need to be played.
