[OT] A Dinner With Captain Murderer wat Okay, so... I came across this video. I saw the name of the song and sort of smiled to myself, as I'm sure you can all imagine what it reminded me of. Then I hit play.

I don't get this at all.... What indeed.
It seems like there's a lot of more 'mainstream' Slendy-related things cropping up recently. Not vlogs, but other stuff. Like people that only barely know what it is and go "Oooh, neat, let's copy this". Most of them metal bands, I've noticed. Oo
Or is it just me?
The fire Operator symbol was really awesome though.

I don't like this one bit.
It reduces our dear Operator to a simple boogyman who comes when you say his name and kills you. He's like every other scary childhood story with this. That's silly. The Operator is a mind-rending eldritch abomination that dismembers children and hangs their mangled organs from trees.
Also, through the use of the Operator symbol, these people would tie their mythos (which is lame) to Marble Hornets (which is not).
So, overall, disapprove.

Lame. I've been writing a song for months called "Don't fear the operator" but now if I go through with it, I'll probably be grouped with these talentless morons. That entire song was LITERALLY riffs stolen from Cradle Of Filth, As I Lay Dying and The Black Dahlia Murder. I hate everything right now..

"A Dinner With Captain Murderer" would make a great name for an interview-style web series. The Captain could invite guests over (like the Operator) and interview them over a home-cooked meal. I thought that's what I was getting into, so I was disappointed.

What I always found frightening about the Operator was the fact that he was an anomaly that couldn't be explained, and that he harmed people in ways that we could not percieve. A faceless man with long, lanky arms, a perversion of humanity, that clearly shouldn't be able to exist, but does. You don't know why it's there, or what it's capable of, you just know that it's wrong, that it shouldn't be there, and that it's turning people against each other. Way I see it, the more that's known about its nature, the less frightening it becomes.
Basically my point is this wasn't scary, it was just a guy in business suit who's face they just didn't pan up to. Also his tie is gone and his shirt is slightly unbuttoned, so even if it were the Operator, he's clearly already clocked out for the day.

The sad thing about this video is that it had the potential to be really, really good, but ended up being kinda meh. On one hand, it has professional camera work, some interesting ideas (I thought flaming operator symbol was a nice touch) and it probably had bigger budget than MH, EMH and TT all put together. On the other hand the song is at best mediocre (admittedly I am pretty biased against this sort of music) and instead of making the video creepy in a subtle way, like all the best Slender-series are, they made it look like something out of a below-average slasher movie. And what is this nonsense about only attacking people who say his name? That's Candlejack's shtick.
This album cover is awesome, and I'll post it now for no reason whatsoever:

The cinematography was kind of nice. Everything else was atrociously bad. Is "I don't have a clue how to use my mixing board" just something all metal bands do nowadays? I hate the genre regardless but it seems like it's gotten even worse in the last decade.

Oh, the pacing of that woman's lines at the beginning (repeated at the end), and the unnecessary break within the sentence.

Yep. When I think "Slenderman," I think this:

You seem to be saying this is a positive aspect of the video, but I'd sooner call it a negative going by how they applied that budget. I mean, the video has a lot of blood effects in it, but that's nothing MH and EMH haven't done before (and EMH has created some realistic looking rake-wounds). Additionally, MH, EMH, and TT all did something that this video did not: show the Operator from the neck up.

To clarify: of course having a big budget is neither a good or a bad thing per se, it's what you do with it that counts. What I wanted to say that they had a lot of potential. With all that money they had the possibility to do something really amazing, something that amateurs like Troy and
Noah
Adam, talented as they are could not have done, but they missed that opportunity.
