 New very weird viral video
Very VERY weird!!

I stumbled over this link a few days ago. Somebody dug it up on youtube and claimed it could be the teaser trailer for the upcoming film by the great great band ANIMAL COLLECTIVE (which has the more-than-strange-title ODDSAC... umh...).

After some mails were send around, it turned out the video is NOT a teaser or outtake from that film.

It definitely has high production values. And it sure is weird... semi-organic trees, a goat-birth, black humanoid creatures...

And a poster who's posting under the name Anonymousity as a guest. Not self-promoting at all Wink lol

I'll give this a look and re-edit my post when I have.

ETA:

Video:

It's titled "Prelude 699130082.451322" - Could those #s poss' decode to something?

In the first 10 seconds a tree in the back seems to be developing an arm (branch moving of its own lucid will) around 20-25 seconds the small 'downed' tree to the left also seems to be moving of its own will lucidly whilst around the back of the video there seems to be some kind of moving mist... VERY strange 'tree coloured' hands with black nails moving in a dancing stylistic.

Grotesque (Someone may say beautiful) close up of as said by OP, a goat birth. Then back to moving hands/feet in/around trees. Then a humanoid figure within what seems to be a birthing egg or something.

But there are NO clues here to move us forward into anything, no email addresses, URLs, even written words or phrases.

To me it does seem like a teaser for a music video, possibly that of APHEX TWIN or a similar band but there doesn't seem to be anything 'stand out' ARGish here.

Edit 2: After googling the title I noticed this guy blogs about it once, but he could just be blogging about videos/things he finds online that're interesting to him - http://twitter.com/DesignUnderSky/status/6447781800

And some people seem to believe it could be for NiN

interesting... gruesome and interesting Smile
definitely good production value (though with DSLRs having HD video capability, quality depth of focus in video is now in consumer reach =)

seems like a huge contrast though between the tree clips and goat clip. definitely weird...

I agree that it appears to be part of a music video. The video is even posted under the 'music' category.

More searching just gives me a German blog which says, "According to unconfirmed sources it should be a film of Animal Collective"

Trying to confirm that, all I do get is this:
Quote:
The much-anticipated Animal Collective movie looks like its ready to be released onto the world ... in a big way. It will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah from January 21st - 31st [2010].

Titled ODDSAC, the film is supposed to be an experimental one,... "It's kinda like a psychedelic film,..."

Other research on their latest "visual album" gets me to this:
Quote:
...the album will incorporate new material from AC and will feature video footage shot by Danny Perez (who also did the "Who Could Win a Rabbit" video).

Take a look and see if the visual style is similar.(edit) Their fanbase is undecided...
http://collectedanimals.net/viewtopic.php?t=9146
(fun watching other people weirded out by this thing)

(final edit)
Someone respected in that thread confirmed that it is not Animal Collective so I give up for now.

The title readily converts to map co-ordinates

69.91300 82.451322
6.991300 82.451322
69.913008 2.451322

but nothing stands out.

After spending half-an-hour following a dead-end lead (see my last post), now i'm distracted....

The YouTube stats tab says that it was first linked from Facebook

Dec 05, 2009 First embedded on - www.facebook.com

How does one find the page where the link was first posted? (Detective work can be fun!)

Musically, it sounds like a NIN track. Visually, its more in alignment with Aphex Twin's stuff; although, naturalistic animal scenes have been in NIN's work too (e.g., decomposing fox in Hurt video). Neither of their fan boards have any info on this either.

I tried extensive searches for the video title, the numbers by themselves, and the posters name without any luck. Whatever this is, its probably just a taste of something more to come.

iamamiwhoami's profile says their country is Vanuatu. A quick Google search gave me this information:

Quote:
Vanuatu - a string of more than 80 islands once known as the New Hebrides - achieved independence from France and Britain in 1980.

Most of the islands are inhabited; some have active volcanoes.

Vanuatu is mountainous and much of it is covered with tropical rainforests. Like most of the area, it is prone to earthquakes and tidal waves. Most of the people live in rural areas and practice subsistence agriculture.

Source & More Info
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/country_profiles/1249790.stm

I have no idea if that means anything or if it makes sense with the map coords booba found.

catherwood - I have no idea how to find that FB information. I searched for "iamamiwhoami" and "Vanuatu". No hits on "iamamiwhoami". "Vanuatu" landed over 500 individual hits and 453 group hits. Most of the groups are very small. One stood out, a "just for fun" group that has one member, no admins, and the description is "photos".

But again, this could be absolutely nothing. I will say I really liked the music and the video. Couldn't done without the goat part, though.

My first impression before even reading the thread was "This is a NiN video."

Honestly, it could be for any number of avant garde electronic musicians... shit there are a couple musicians I've worked with in the past that this reminds me of...

bleh, I hope someone figures something out soon. I'm intrigued.

It's probably not NIN, since NIN technically does not exist anymore. It may be Trent Reznor, but I'm doubtful. It could be a track off the Ghosts album laid over a student project of some sort (that whole album is under the Creative Commons Share and Share-Alike [or whatever] license). Unfortunately, I'm not familiar enough with the album to say one way or the other.
As for the video itself, I'm reminded of the A Perfect Circle video for "Weak and Powerless", but like was said above, it looks like 100 other things too. The goat thing is totally out of place, but random out-of-place stock footage stuff isn't unheard of in industrial rock videos.

Here are the tags for the clip:
wood foetus natal moisture machine disciple orifice

The one that really jumps out at me is foetus. It could reference the goat-birthing, but it's also possible that it is a nod to J. G. Thirlwell's industrial-rock group, Foetus. They seem to be slightly vocal-heavy, but he's known to do plenty of instrumental work. Videos at:

Ok, for some reason, that video creeped me the fuck out. There was nothing 'creepy' really, but after I finished watching it, my I had goosebumps. I think it's the final frame that does it. The beckoning hand.

As with the 'Ghosts' link - I could listen and see if any songs match up. I own the whole collection. If I do find the track, I'll upload it so it can be harvested for information. I don't think it is, though. I don't remember hearing this track.

The first thing that jumped at me when watching this is that it reminded me of something you'd see in a Japanese creep-out movie. The sort of stuff that's far out and meant to give the creeps, not necessarily scare. No names come to head (as I haven't really watched any, just have been sent clips of things in the past.) and it may not be one.

The GPS co-ords could come in to play some time. We should keep watch for more videos or hidden things in the video for the next set.

Has anyone slowed down the video to check for anything hidden in the goat scene?

I asked around, and supposedly the tree bit is from a Newzeland energy drink ad campaign for a product called Mother. I'm probing the source for more info now.

Edit ::

His exact message was
"the tree with hands is from newzealand, a tv add for original mother energy drink made around 2006 when they attempted to save it before changing it completely.
it appears someone has just edited in something..which is easy to tell really considering."

Edit 2 ::
Haven't heard back from the guy. Can't find shit via google - but, it's a possible lead.

Edit 3 :::
I did a quick once over through my Ghosts collection (1-36) and didn't hear this track, but I may have missed it. The music does sound a lot like the style conveyed in the 'album'

So it looks like this is a whole lot of nothing I guess. I have the Ghosts album too, just have to be in the right mood for listening, which I really haven't been lately.

Looks like:
Old, odd, foreign ad + stock footage + random song (unless this was the song in it to begin with) = someone getting a lot of hits on youtube.

Case closed. (for me)

I wouldn't put it off just like that, though. Even if it's a mashup of existing footage, it could lead to something.

Looking at that goat clip - it doesn't look like the goat it's birthing is even a full goat, imo. Looks more like a fetus to me, like it's aborting. I'd like to know how that comes in to play with the video, if this does mean anything.

Also, the points where it shows the clearly human figure. I'm not sure what to make of that. It could just be part of the original, but for some reason I doubt that. It doesn't seem to fit.
