Cool up until the end, but the last 30 minutes made no sense.

It's kind of neat when you don't think of it as an actual Slenderseries with people who've been plagued by the Slender Man their whole lives, but as what happens when some kids are unfortunate enough to wander into a small town full of proxies/Slendy-worshippers and muck about.

How does no one get the end? They said in the movie " ohhh a wendigo its like a native zombie" or something like that not gonna find the exact phrase, I thought the effects at the end where pretty solid except for the burning slender man, ( I dont think it means they killed him, More than likely just scared it off or at least thats what I thought). Acting was terrible in parts and sort of convincing in others ( best acting came from the old dudes imo), This is just as good as anything else I've seen in youtube just a lot longer and really fucking boring until the end. I don't thing i will watch it again but It was a nice way to waste an hourish.

I get the ending, but I still think it's kinda stupid. Mere moments ago, slenderman was shown to avoid a gunshot with teleportation, and now it's being burned/scared away by fire?

Oh yah for sure, That was kinda weak either way they were implying either killing him or getting lucky with a weakness. Definitely had some parts that could of been better.

Hm. I'm gonna go ahead and spoiler my thoughts, just to be on the safe side.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The last thing I want to do is rip apart something that you obviously spent a lot of time to make, and so I'll try and keep this critique as constructive as possible. First, I'd like to start by commending you on being the first one to put together a true Slenderman movie (that is, if you don't include that short film atrocity... and I think most don't). Up until now we've been looking at blogs and web series, so I'd say at the very least you've made a unique contribution to this mythos. A lot of people underestimate how much hard work goes into video and editing, especially when you're looking at a more lengthy production.

Being someone who has seen many "found footage" films, I've come to know and recognize the general format of the whole thing. The first half is usually pretty calm, building suspense and immersion. You succeeded in doing this. Your characters' reason for filming was realistic, and I felt as if I really was just watching some behind-the-scenes stuff. However, I think you might have let that go on a bit too long. We don't generally see anything weird or Slendy-ish until about 40 minutes in. Of course, you don't want your monster ripping everyone apart within the first five minutes, but I felt as if you could have hinted at it a bit earlier. While it's good to build that immersion, nothing truly interesting or noteworthy really happens outside of the campfire scene, which sets the audience up for what to expect later on.

The acting was very on and off. I think the adults did a pretty good job. Steve felt convincing, and managed to be somewhat intimidating later on in the film. The other adult (I can't remember his name, the one who wanted his shed built) provided plenty of humor, whether it be intentional or not. The entire scene on his porch was pretty amusing. Dean and Selena (I believe were their names?) were pretty agitating, which I believe was the idea.

Your Slendy looked good! At first, I wasn't so sure. But that end sequence definitely showed him off, and it was refreshing to see someone have him moving around. I liked the way you related him to the Windigo legend as well. I'm actually surprised it took this long for someone to try to tie it and Slenderman together. I also like how he is only referred to as a Windigo, as for whatever reason I always cringe when people actually say "Slenderman" out loud in a series.

Now, the ending... I'm going to be honest, I really don't have a clue what happened. From what I gathered... the townspeople are actually very aware of the Windigo's presence, and are trying to keep that a secret from the outside world? I'm not sure whether they were actively working with/for the Windigo, or if they simply didn't want the film crew to put unwanted attention on their community. For whatever the reason, Steve and his pals kill Selena. Brandon discovers her body, and Steve realizes this means he must kill the rest of the crew. This turns into quite a mess of distortion and jump cuts. What was with Brandon walking through the lake? It really reminded me of the hidden videos from EverymanHYBRID. A bunch of (faceless???) people show up with guns, Slendy/Windigo attempts to take them and Dean is killed in the crossfire. Brandon finds a bunch of tapes and hopes to leave with them. For some reason, Brandon is now an antagonist and gets in a fist fight with Reese, while the Windigo burns to death. Reese manages to defeat Brandon, throwing him from the back of a truck. He and Cassie drive to safety. Brandon is later picked up by authorities, and he kills an officer during interrogation and escapes. The end.

Am I missing something?

The ending was truthfully what really put me off. I may be able to type out what I saw, but what exactly does it mean? Why was Brandon no longer a good guy? Were the faceless people supposed to be potential Wendigos? I realize that having a list of questions is practically a staple of other Slenderman series... but that's the thing, this isn't a series. It's a standalone movie. So while you don't need to explain everything, you need to explain something. I should be able to at least comprehend what happened, and I honestly can't.

The interrogation scene also was sort of silly and unnecessary. I think that whatever authorities picked him up would have cleaned him up before questioning... or at least so that he wasn't bleeding all over the table. Is Brandon now a Windigo?

Overall, this was a good effort. It isn't awful like some were making out to be, but there's lots of room for improvement. I feel as if I viewed an unfinished project, and you still had to edit in a scene or two. The big conclusion is almost a necessity in these types of movies. Blair Witch, Cloverfield, Paranormal Activity... these all implement that tactic, but don't sacrifice the plot for an "OH SHIT!" moment. That was the biggest problem here. It didn't completely ruin the movie, but it definitely hurt it a bit. This film showed a lot of potential for you as a filmmaker. I'd like to thank you for putting in the hard work to give us our first Slenderman movie, as well as putting it up for free online. I look forward to seeing what else you can do in the future!

Also, since this isn't an ongoing series, I feel as if there isn't much harm in letting OP post in this thread. As long as they aren't actively spoiling things, it'd be nice to have some Q&A with them. Of course, I don't make the rules here, so it's just a suggestion.

As a bit of a Cinephile, I looked at this as I would a movie as much as a slendermythos contribution. There was a lot of unnecesairy scenes, and times when the camera was focused on something unimportant when it shouldn't have been (a lot of scenes with dialogue, the audience couldn't see the actors, meaning we missed a lot of the body language and facial expression we'd usually get). Focusing on unimportant things also loses the effect of not being sure if somrthing is wrong or not; over time, we lose the excitement of trying to find something to merely waiting it out. The effects were spectacular when they weren't overused (quite a few scenes of "can't see shit captain"), and the use of two cameras was a bit confusing (especially since two cameras wasn't foreshwadowed). All criticisms aside, the dialogue was amazing, the jokes about Canadian films were spot on, the acting was pretty good, and it was genuinely scary at times. I'm buying the DVD first chance I get.

    Started watching this.
The fact that I dislike all of the characters within the first ten minutes of the movie is not a good thing.
