The Mythos is Dead
Get Over it

You all can deny it as much as you want, but lets face it. The mythos is slowly (very slowly) but surely reaching its extinction. I've been lurking since around '09, when EMH and TT were just starting, and Marble Hornets had a decent amount of episodes. Since then ive seen the mythos rise and fall. I went through high school, and college. I remember when blogspot had tens of hundreds of different blogs, some ive even made myself. The Mystic, Angel's Game, Compile Truth, Observe and Report, White Elephants, etc.

But the fact is, the popularity this meme gained from its video games did nothing to help expand it. If anything, we can look at Slender as the tombstone of the mythos. After it came out, there was an astounding decrease of decent material coming out for our part of the internet. And once Marble Hornets ended, it became significantly less. Im around the same age as most of the major content creators, early 20s, have an extremely busy work and social life, so much so that i gave up on my own content years ago. But that's because i grew uninterested. Let me just say I still have had plenty of time left over outside of my work and personal life to organize and edit a series if i really wanted to. Whatever most of them say about not having time to do so is bullshit. They're beating around the bush. The truth is, they've grown out of it. And while you all may be content with 1-2 updates a year because of "story reasons" the truth is, they cant be bothered with it anymore, but dont want to let the few fans that are still around down. Hate to be blunt about it, but it needed to be said. The mythos is dead, and the few creators still around need to put together shitty endings for the very few people sticking with it and get on with their lives.

As for those of you who have recently started, put your effort into more important things, like school or meeting people. Give it a year or two, and no ones going to remember it more than any other shitty unexpected John Cena video.

if you really want to think that something is dead, the most dead thing would be slendy mythos, but thats like calling a 35 year old near death. Mythos in general will live on for a long time

I'm not sure you felt like you had to tell us this. I know when I saw this post the first words out of my mouth were 'This is obviously a guy with an extremely busy work and social life. I should listen to him.'

We could be having a serious discussion about how the mythos and its reputation could improve, but instead this post is all like:

"I have authority because I've been around since EMH and TT started in 2009" (even though they both started in 2010)

"I don't make series cause I have a life, but btw I totes could with my free time if I wanted to (just sayin'), but if you invest any amount of time into the mythos then you must have no life" ???

"The context that made the mythos appealing to a lot of us is not all that accessible to new viewers anymore... so obvs the solution is to give up on the thing you enjoy lol. dead 5ever"

It's funny how pointless this is.

I laughed.

Lack of context? Lolwut?

I wasn't here for any of it but I've been binge-watching old Slenderseries, and I'm liking it.

I have been around. Lurked from early 09 to when I joined mid 2010. Played a few non Slender ARGs. Been following the big three since day one.

The mythos is not dead whatsoever. Clear Lakes 44 IS proof positive of this.

Like they said, find some new bait, killjoy. No one here is going to buy what you're selling.

THAC has indicated that Clear Lakes 44 is not supposed to be Sle--Operator-related, unless they've changed their minds since then.

I think it remains to be seen whether or not anyone will emerge to take the place of giants like Marble Hornets.

Is anyone bothered by the title of this page? Haha, "The Mythos is Dead." It's plural so it would not have "is" but "are"...I think it's also suppose to be Mythos' but I'm not sure....Just ignore me I'm being an asshole Smile

Also, I can't help but say that this 'thread' is sort of pointless. I know it's trying to say that mythos are becoming extinct or whatever, but honestly who cares? I mean, yes, many wouldn't want it to stop, but this is already a bit obvious. I feel that Slenderman, since I feel that's what the mythos mainly consist of, has been used in so many ways in so many forms and in so many plots that I'm personally glad it's starting to leave. I love the concept of Slender, but I'm growing a little tired of him. We need new mythos, and I'm not saying there aren't.

Personally, I would LOVE LOVE LOVE if someone made a mythos that was put in the form of a movie. Like with camera angles(not found footage style) and with some music in the background and seeing the actors instead of them hiding behind the camera.-----I am not ripping on ppl who do this, for I do it myself in my series so don't take any offense in it.

Welp, my acquaintance above me decided to voice his thoughts. Why should I hold back any longer?

This post is bullshit. Literally, utter bullshit. Even Mr. Rosner had to come out of lurking to point this out. Sure, there haven't been many good smaller-scale series' in the past few years, but so far the mythos seem to be doing fine. TheTownThatNeverExisted is a fine example of what's still possible and is actually going on. FallenSeven, theyarecomingback10, TalesFromTheSpiderWeb, PhantomVoices and that's just a few of the "popular" smaller series. The mythos aren't dead yet.

We would probably do better without so many fucking gamejackers trying to plug themselves into our stories.

calling the mythos a meme is kinda insulting, it was and is more than that.

this is the opinion of an avid fan, not a bitter ex-content creator: slenderman's "golden era" really was from 2009 to about 2013. that was when every week there would be a new series and a chance for potential posted here. i remember how cool it was to see a series pop up and see a post with nothing but a video and a spoiler tag and knowing "okay, this is the video where shit goes down". i've watched hundreds of these damn slenderseries, and i'm quite fond of all of em.

but there's nothing wrong in admitting that periods of popularity are destined to come to a close. obviously, things aren't going to remain popular forever, and i think what's kinda hurt the slenderseries community isn't just the close of marble hornets or lack of videos from the big guys, but really is the lack of the mid-tier series - those ones that sustained you in between marble hornets videos. back when there was tons of those, there was a lot of inspiration for people to make new series, and there was a lot of effort and creativity going into making the coolest slendy and the coolest video series. but because of the lack of series like that, or the lack of interest in series like that, things began to wind down. i'm not saying there's none of those out there anymore, i'm just saying there's not nearly as many.

i'm not saying don't pick up your camera to try to make a good horror series, and i'm not saying there's no hope for slenderman - as a concept i think he's still really frightening. i'm just saying the OP's sentiment, although a bit harsh, isn't completely wrong. that's just kinda how the game goes.
