Mystery Ongoing

I'm stumped as to what to even solve on this one myself. It's a series of paintings that aren't in Wikipedia that were, apparently, stolen so long ago that the police report is legally able to drink in America. Does anyone have any clue on what to do with this ancient art history lesson?

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
So the clues lie in the names of the paintings. But finding a proper list of the stolen artwork is absurdly difficult. Even the Museum's web site doesn't have a proper list, and the two I can't find are the two in French. So I have no clue if they're correct or not. This is probably a case of the writer of the puzzle having stacks and stacks of art history books with information that isn't available online, much like me referencing a line from a specific translation of a book only printed in 1921 and being shocked that no one else knows it. I'm disappointed.

If you click on the presented link, it will show you pictures of the stolen paintings. Something about them should look familiar and also different.

The second puzzle is where I'm currently stuck.

Yeah, I'm stuck on the second part currently, too. It seems... vague.

1. try to find the paintings and their real names
2. for the 2nd part, find a two-word expression that means the same thing

Can anyone post a link to a list of the artworks stolen? I'm lucky I had a friend online that could write out the titles for me (the specific font and small size used in the image is too difficult for me to read), but I can't find the full list anywhere, and no one I know online right now knows French.

There's a link in the puzzle description. Namely to: http://asset1.gardnermuseum.org/FILE/2921.pdf

I'm on an older computer, that pdf file crashes my system. Is there a non pdf link anywhere, or is M once again punishing those of us that don't upgrade our systems on a regular basis?

Okay, for those of us who cannot access pdf files for whatever reason, I found a complete link of the works on a regular web page. It is a link to the FBI, but I don't think they care as it's just a link to what was stolen:

Totally stuck for something to do with the first result.

This might help if you're stuck on the second part:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Imagine the phrase relative to the theives, not as just a general saying.

Complete ditto. I feel like Rory trying to understand the Doctor, and knowing that there's a language barrier in the way.

Ok...how about this than. Much more revealing hint:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The title of the puzzle initially is a clue, as well.
