[TRAILHEAD?] Next Frictional Game
From the developer of Amnesia and Penumbra

I found this on the website for the developer of Amnesia and Penumbra under In-development games:
http://www.nextfrictionalgame.com/

According to discussion on their forum thread (here), there have already been a few updates and puzzles since the website was first released. The background image was blurred at first and sharpened to the current image on the site. As of now, the following locations (in order of earliest to most recent) were linked throughout the updates: China, Boreray, and currently, 506 2nd ave #1021, Seattle, WA.

While trying to access the teaser images from previous updates, I came across http://www.thedarkswarm.com/share/hl_mess.gif , which leads to another ARG-looking site. I'm not sure if they are related.

Go up one level to view the directories. Everything around it is datestamped from 2010, so perhaps you're finding leftovers of an older game. The newest folder is called Amnesia, which I assume was their last game?


I'll poke around on that 2nd item, out of curiosity and nothing better to do.

About the command directory. Reading the posts on the other thread there's only one thing so far.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Enter in USER THOMAS and they seemed to have unlocked a file that is called Fragment_Ebola by "promoting Thomas" over 100. Picture contains letters for the moment, and that seems to be all. Admin and Jens are locked out with passwords.
Letters are: PFCINCMIOISGG

Edit: It would seem you can still promote Thomas. After you promote you must use the EXIT command then reenter.


I suddenly have memories of the darkspore ARG.

There are some new commands under "help," and you no longer have to ask the rooster for the roster.

Everyone in IRC is pretty sure it's over and we're just waiting for the end at some time tonight. You can read about the game here:

After we got the four "fragment" archives, we had a long string of letters from the image they revealed, which someone anagrammed to mean "A Machine for Pigs coming fall two thousand twelve." Anagrams are very ambiguous but taken in context this solution is almost certain to be correct.

It feels anticlimactic to end on a simple string, like a "twas all for boners" moment.

EDIT: Yet that's exactly what happened. The countdown ended earlier than anticipated and displayed the message, "A MACHINE FOR PIGS COMING FALL TWO THOUSAND TWELVE." Also it gave higher res images of the two pieces of concept art that we had seen.
