okay, so i have been trying to break this thing.

I requested to reset my password and I gave it my email (mind you i have not set up anything with them)

i got a series of symbols that popped up on the top of the page. they translate to: lorem ipsum sit dolor

here is a link a screen shot : http://imgur.com/eeGJmtD

I did the same thing.
Unless someone says otherwise, I think it's just placeholder text for now until it possibly gets updated.

Can I please request that anyone who has not been following this thread since it's inception or at least the past several weeks, please take the time to go back and read from the beginning or at least near the beginning of this thread. I'm only requesting you do so as to avoid rehashing old news like the place holder symbols on the initiated page (I think that has come up quite a bit already) and other various topics. It's just a respect thing and in my opinion newer folks need to do your homework and read through this thread before posting. That way we can ll be on the same page. Thanks Very Happy

...I actually did. It is however nice to bring up old clues since no one has touched them in about 2 years. Maybe something new has happened to them since then.

Unfiction has a term for this. It's 'trout'.
http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=5238
In a nutshell it is
Quote:
"Listen, I respect you. It's great that you're here and posting and that we're working together for a common goal. Nonetheless, I have some polite criticisms." Trout is a term of respect that replaces the need to say "you're redundant!" with a courteous term that acknowledges the hard work involved even in redundant efforts.

We have a nice gif too.
An example is - Hey, Trout we've talked about the symbols and placeholder text. Here's where it was first brought up. http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=1041386#1041386

Best practice is to provide a link to previous discussion to help newcomers get up to speed instead of having to comb through all previous posts.

A side note too... yes the PMs watch the threads on unfiction. Let the paranoia ensue. Foily!

I 100% agree, I am in no doubt they are watching. To put this in context; with the Prometheus Viral marketing/ARG I was delving into source code and noticed a comment that contained shocking grammar.

I posted in the Prometheus thread on this site and within a couple of days the comment had been removed and replaced with a comment saying 'must take grammar lessons'.

The comment remains in the live site to this day.

See:

And:

http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=937607&search_id=1819746606#937607

I reckon that if they want to track the user opinion, progress, anticipation (or boredom of waiting! Wink ) they will have eyes in this thread, I would be exceptionally surprised if they didn't.

Anyway, just posting my opinion as there is nothing else to do! (Hint hint, PMs Wink )

?!?

Hi all,

I just checked out the nonchalance blog, I haven't been there in a while and thought I'd check it out.

I saw a post dated from 1 month ago, and after using the search functionality to see if it had been mentioned in here, decided I should post:

http://divinenonchalance.tumblr.com/post/87709080388/i-would-love-to-play-anything-in-portland-oregon/

There is a post, or more specifically, a question:

Quote:
I would love to play, anything in Portland Oregon?

The response is somewhat bizarre. They say their "outpost" is concentrating on the SF Bay area but then go onto list 2 possible places of interest?

Links:

http://www.atlasobscura.com/places/woodstock-mystery-hole-skb

http://www.atlasobscura.com/places/vaux-s-swifts-at-chapman-school

As I say, I may get hit with the dreaded trout icon here but after searching I found nothing.

Furthermore; This post was put up a month ago and hence is relatively new, in fact I just noticed it today.

Is this anything? Or is it relating to a different "game". Cant be the JI as that shut down/ended years ago, or am I wrong?

Just thought it was worth throwing out there, is all.

Ello Ello everyone - I've been reading these forums for a while, but hesitated to respond because I didn't have anything useful to say. I still don't, but here we go!

Though we do know that the google site is not related (poor confused children), and that an art group might possibly be behind the 521-221-5280 number... would our hacker friend happen to know if those craigslist ads leading everyone to the alleyway in the financial district are in fact from nonchalance? If it is, then my mind is trying to wrap itself around that phone number, along with the adds for the radio station that is tied to Pirate cat radio... which used to be located in the mission district.... which is where Jeff Hull mentioned this game might jumpstart from in that interview transcript.

I visited that alleyway from the craigslist ad the day after they were posted, and explored the alley for about 30 minutes. At the exact point on the map (which was in front of an employee only door to a law library), all I found was a giant pile of human excrement.

I guess my main point is... you say that we need to be patient and wait - that we will be asked to join and not the other way around. But how do they even know how to contact us? I can't imagine they will simply contact anyone in this thread based on our interest. We didn't do anything to earn it. It doesn't require taking any chances or leaps of faith. I guess, part of me hopes it takes more than just sitting around waiting to get involved.

Harvesting emails through the password reset page, maybe?

Now we've been over this Alyssium and I think we all agree that hacking is Satanic and will lead you down a road of drugs, unprotected sex, and in the end you'll be sporting one of those big "Unix sysadmin" bushy beards.

I think it is clear from past activities of Nonchalance that you will have to apply/engage/actively participate to become part of the events. The call for patience concerns the likelihood at this point that the events have not even begun. While it is possible that the craigslist adds were genuine trail-heads, they are gone now, and quite possibly red herrings in the first place. We need to keep looking for clues and other items that might be trail-heads and be willing to follow them up. Be watchful (keep your eyes and mind open), adventurous and creative, but don't be destructive or Satanic (speaking of which, thank you Madrone! You win the Belly Laugh of the Day award for that comment Smile.

According to the director that I called to find out about the game it has been live since the 23rd if memory serves me correct.

This is a remnant from the Games of Nonchalance and the only still-working site that was part of the experience (the JI and the EPWA websites have since dissolved into the electronic ether).

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
try adding a /3 to the end of the address for a little trip down the rabbit hole.

games of nonchalance: how to play is still active. http://www.nonchalance.com/howtoplay.html
Though dunno how much it was "part of the experience" so to speak.
