BTW, welcome BlackRuthie. I signed up for Twitter only because of a game as well. I've managed not to let it take over my life, but be careful, it can be dangerous... :>

Thanks, I'll try. I've already spent far too long reading about wing shapes though, so the prognosis is not good.

The movie is based on a book with the same title by Tom Wolfe. In the book there is some focus on test pilots in the Navy (outside of the Mercury project). The second chapter, titled "The Right Stuff," highlights the mentality of said pilots and the difference between having "it" and not.

I thought maybe failures of the Soviet Space Program might have something to do with it. So I found some good ol' Soviet space fails.

http://www.cracked.com/article_19142_5-soviet-space-programs-that-prove-russia-was-insane.html

This is simultaneously horrifying and hilarious (Horrilarious). I'm not sure how much it has to do with the clue, but it's worth a read.

Boxes, was there a name for the group of people who didn't have "it" in the book?

There's a new update on the blog. Our girl happened to open two of the sealed envelopes, one earlier than the date it's supposed to be opened on...

Just thought people should know, there's more coming today.

The book describes them as "those left behind" but that did not work as a password. In general, though, the book stresses that the "test" for the right stuff is ongoing, that it could "blow at any seam," etc. I have only read a few chapters, though, so I don't know if I'm on the right track here.

Boxes, my paperbook version of Tom Wolfe's novel is 370 pages long so good luck with reading fast. A review mentioned that Wolfe uses the phrase, the right stuff. only once in his book to describe "a quality beyond bravery that can't be put into words".

I'm thinking the relevant PW is somewhere in Chapter 2, titled fittingly enough, "The Right Stuff".

I don't have the book however & am having a hard time finding somewhere online where I can check out chapter 2.
