Slim (Slenderman short film)

Hey all,

Been lurking on the forums for a while now, ever since my roommate told me a story about the Slenderman. He said a few years ago his friend in college actually ended up going to jail. He visited him but the friend could only talk about the Slenderman. It sounded pretty creepy, so I cooked up a little short film inspired by that story. He's always a prankster though, so he was probably just trying to spook me. If you want to check it out (or even spread it around?), here's the link. Thanks guys.

Honest opinion?

I really want there to be a laugh track for this. The acting was not very good, better than that 17 minute Slender Man film travesty, but still pretty subpar. The interactions between Derek and his friend made me feel like they were married, and considering that his friend seemed much larger and huskier than him, the fact that he acted like a pussy weakling made it all the funnier. It had potential, like most of these short films, but failed to deliver the scares and content I was hoping for. They showed slender man way too much, and never really had anything explained, which would have made the story more interesting and gave the film at least a trace of purpose. Bottom line, for a college film, although decent production value and potential, this was highly underwhelming, devoid of plot & substance for the ten minutes it offered, and left me face palming in the end.

It looks like he's receiving oral sex just out of shot during the Video Games scene.
Just sayin'

EDIT: but I love your usage of Paper Mache, truly...I do

Some of the choices in music were weird, like around 1:30 there was just a really odd choice in music. And the actors seemed to be afraid to get into their part, limiting themselves because they were embarrassed or something. Also the part where they were playing video games was over acted. Who plays games like that?

Also with slenderman, less is usually more. If you showed him less and simply implied that he was there, it would have given your work a creepier tone.

It was a nice concept, however it didn't seem to really resolve itself. Why was that guy aware of slenderman? Why did slenderman go for Dereck? Unless you were intentionally trying to make the audience confused.. But that just seems cheap.

And their seemed to be a lack of common sense between Dereck and his friend. If my friend said he just saw someone in the hallway, my first reaction wouldn't be "May as well check it out." And if my friend just tried to attack me after investigating said person in the hallway, I wouldn't tie him up and then go to sleep. Though this could just be because hardly anyone in the slenderverse is genre savvy.

I did like how you made us assume that slenderman was in the beginning by the way you shot it so we couldn't see the agents face, and then later referenced the beginning by having him actually come in and it being shot the same way.

All in all it was worth watching, and entertaining to watch, but the whole thing came off as unpolished and could have used a lot more work. Maybe resolve the story, or decide which story you wanted to tell, Derecks or the Agents. Maybe spend more time on shoots so that your actors can start to get a feel for their character, instead of just saying their lines. And for the love of god, music is supposed to be subtle, setting the mood in the background while you focus on the actors. Having loud and sudden music draws the viewer out of the video. More so when it happens every couple of minutes. Like when slendy showed up, it was like the music was saying "HEY IT IS THE SLENDA MAN! YOU SHOULD TOTALLY BE AFRAID RIGHT NOW."

Credit to you for trying though. I would not have the balls to try and make a complete story that is interesting and unique with only ten minutes. Plus, it was better than that other Slender Man film.

Overall this film was not bad, but it isn't a Windigo. And it's a helluva lot better than THE RAKE

It was ok. Nothing besides acting was terriable, yet nothing stood out as great either.
