Live from Trilogy Tuesday!

Hey all! Can't get on IRC from my iPaq (should have brought my laptop, a bunch of other people did!), so I thought I'd wave to y'all in here. In the theater now, FotR starts in about 45 min. Pretty crazy and fun group here, and the theater folks are being very cool.

More later at the first break (approx. 4:30PM PT), so say Hi and I'll reply! OOooh, I made a rhyme... Laughing

I just finished re-reading the third book just now.

I think I had better bring lots of kleenex to the movie tomorrow.

DON'T GO IN!!! IT'S A TRAP!!!!

Sigh. Too late...

Mary Pols is a very reasonable movie critic in our local paper.
Here's what she had to say about episode 3.

Ah, but the Kona's survived the trilogy in Las Vegas last night.

Konashark arrived at the theatre lobby at 8a to get in line (he was determined to be in the first group of 40 to be let into the theatre to ensure the best possible seats). He later reported those first in line had gotten there at 4a. Avoidance of boredom in line was relieved by his personalized DVD player. Others present were noted to be playing LoTR Trivial Pursuit or LoTR Risk. At 10a they passed out the special trilogy passes with our numbers (36 & 37). Konamouse met him at 12n (after rushing through work at breakneck speed, knowing her name would be "mud" if she missed her appointment with hubby).

Group 1 was let into the theatre at 12:45p to select seats. The Konas made a strategic move to the middle front row to allow for maximum leg room and ease of movement should the call of nature require leaving the theatre. Also, no one would have to crawl over their legs and vice versa. Entertainment continued as additional groups were let into the room and reminded they could only grab a seat that had a numbered tag still showing and there was NO saving of seats. One tag, One ticket, One person was repeated by theatre management (his name was "Joe") a number of times. And the audience appeared very good natured about it.

We were also very pleased to find out that we would be allowed (this one time only) to bring in any food & drink from the Casino food court (but not from any of the restaurants) throughout the showing. Yup, "Fat Burger" for lunch (and the large, refillable soda is half the price of the concession stand drink cup). Oh, in case I didn't mention it, we were at the Green Valley Ranch Station Casino Regal Theatres (just off I-215 in Henderson, NV). Nice, stadium seating, drink cups, semi-reclining seats.

What can I say about watching all three movies in a row. And having the extended versions of FoTR and TTT? There are a lot of extra scenes in TTT that I hadn't seen yet (for the record, it had been a year for Konamouse since seeing the original theatrical release). Konashark, the man about details, had just finished re-reading the whole book not too long ago, but he was so nice to NOT give me any spoilers. Our theatre started at 2p for FoTR, 4p for TTT, and 10p for RoTK. Numb butts after the 3 hour 40 min TTT required some stretching by many participants. But, in the end, it was well worth it.

Watch out on eBay for a special souveneir for Trilogy goers: LoTR Film Frame Collectible with a frame from each movie.

Review of RoTK? Most excellent, sit on the edge of your seat (if you haven't read the book), enjoy the creation (if you have read the book) for the first three hours. Then deflate and get our your hankies (if you are prone to that) for the last 20 min (I felt the very end kind of dragged out too long for the wrap-up and goodbyes).

Twelve hours (almost straight) in a movie theatre. I think my knees were more in pain (from crossing and recrossing my legs) than my butt. I told Konashark that we would NOT do this if Star Wars offered it.

If you missed the Trilogy showing, watch the videos or DVDs back to back in your own home before you go see RoTK - just a reminder of things said, done, and shown..... and Andy should have gotten an Oscar for best supporting actor last year (Gollum).

Now, off to work after only 4 hours sleep.

"I Survived Tuesday Trilogy...

... and all I got was a sore butt!" Well, and free pizza, and severly discounted nachos (NAAAAACHOS!), and free popcorn/soda refills, and lanyard with bitchin' special pass, oh... and that cool picture frame thingy!

I also got to experience a once-in-a-lifetime event... and it was good.

No spoilers... just bring your hankys. I wept many times during this movie, most of all at the end when I allowed myself to realize it was all over...

until "The Hobbit" that is! GO PJ!!!

My apologies for not posting last night - directly after the movie, I was too teary-eyed to type, and by the time I got home (approx. 2:30AM) I was too TIRED to type!

I was gonna post pics of the collectibles - lanyard, pass, and picture frame - but left the lanyard/pass at home, so I'll post that one later. However, the picture frame I brought, and will post a pic in a bit.

Collectible pic #2

Here is the piece of paper that came with it. It says:

"Congratulations on receiving this unique piece of film history.

At the request of New Line Cinema, Sideshow Collectibles and Weta Workshop have designed this ultimate gift item celebrating The Lord of the Rings film trilogy. Weta Workshop, the effects studio responsible for helping Peter Jackson to bring Middle-earth to life, has crafted this exclusive desk piece that includes actual film frames from The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, as well as The Return of the King. Each strip of film is unique and individually cut from a single reel selected from each of the three films. These frames are in CinemaScope wide-ratio format, which gives the actual frame the appearance of being distorted. However, when it's projected onto screens in theaters using an anamorphic lens, the frame appears proportional. The film frames also have thin stripes on the left hand side of each frame. These stripes are the optical sound tracks.

The film frames are embedded in a hand crafted desktop frame that is representative of the most iconic cultures in each of the films. The Fellowship of the Ring sculpted motifs include the graphics on the door to the Mines of Moria, as well as Dwarven architectural elements. The Two Towers sculpted motifs include the Golden Sun seen above the doors of the Great Hall of Rohan, as well as other Rohirrim elements. The Return of the King sculpted motifs include the White Tree of Gondor, as well as motifs of Minas Tirith including the crown and seven stars of Gondor. The frame is accented by the Eye of Sauron located at the apex of the cultures with the graphic motifs of his overbearing presence invading down into the entire piece."
