I don't know much about film budgets either but last I checked even 4 Million would be considered low-budget. I've don't think I've ever heard of a 4k movie.

Watched the trailer. I gotta give them props for not including distortion, and their OP symbol at least had context. But idk. =/

Edit: Oh duh, maybe they just didn't use distortion because it's not found footage. Oh well.

The tentacles were better than TT's, that's about all I can positively say.

Uhm... no. I've seen 15 minute student films with budgets bigger than $4000.

I disagree. The Slender Man was in silhouette and somehow the tentacles were a completely darker shade of black. It looked sloppy.

$4,000 is probably less than the catering budget for one day of filming on an average Hollywood movie.

What I do find odd though is, why WASN'T it a found footage movie? I know the market's pretty saturated at the moment, but this would be one of the few occasions where it would be totally appropriate to use it, and it probably would have been a better use of the budget.

It is kind of shit, though, when $4,000 doesn't buy you as much as some kids can pull out of their asses on pocket money.

Honestly, one of the few refreshing things about it was that it wasn't found footage. That's a trope I'm really getting tired of in Slender Man media, as appropriate as it may be.

Sloppy my ass. The actual movement of the tentacles actually seemed natural and fluid, like moving branches.

So...Is it worth the $15 for the DVD, or is it a complete waste of time?

I think I saw in the link posted earlier where you can buy it digitally for $5.

My two cents:

The script and acting was incredibly sub-par. It's incredibly hard to direct children, and Carman Spoto doesn't seem to have been quite up to the challenge. Writing was weak at best, but at least failed to set up various elements that did get resolved. That said, it wasn't even close to what i could have been.

The pace was the movies biggest problem, and that was caused by the overly sustained (and generally slightly out of focus) cinematography, and the repetitive and uninspired music. Having one (slightly unnerving) piano and violin score moving though every shot of the movie made it more of a pain to watch, and destroyed tension in certain scenes that definitely could have done better with different or no music.

The cinematography was nice, though not inspired. Although I liked the wheelchair shot (which I think is also in the trailer,) it was held for substantially too long. The effects were great, and looking at my tentacle effects (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fu8HSqtV4yE&feature=plcp) were outstanding. Very fluid and seamlessly integrated. However, the costume for Slenderman himself was weak. His height wasn't portrayed whatsoever, and his face was clearly covered by something, as opposed to a full latex mask (which I'm coming to believe is the only way to handle non distorted close-ups.)

Having the director double up as the director of photography is always a bad idea, it ensures weakness in at the very least the shots or the acting, generally both, which I think was the case with this movie. If Mr. Spoto has a chance to read this, please try to get a cinematographer you trust in the future.

Although the pacing was terrible, there were certain elements of the film that I enjoyed, namely the handprint on the window. That eerie sign definitely resonated. The use of the Operator symbol, and the hastily added 'crossing footprints' were a bit of a turnoff, but as a whole not a major complaint.

Probably my biggest problem with the film was the lack of humanity. A private investigator(?) hired by a man who's wife is... missing? And his cutout daughter (who doesn't go to school) was given to his (uneducated and seemingly unemployed) therapist. The entire plot, down to the backgrounds of the characters, felt weak.

This movie is definitely a step in the right direction for innovation to the mythos, but definitely not a far stride. I hold true to my belief that if time and money is put into a script, a great movie still has a chance to be made (without beating a dead horse.) Although I consider myself to be a (pretty damn good) filmmaker, I don't have what it takes to make something that could accurately encompass the mythos myself, but I do have plenty of ideas (like I'm sure all of you do too.) One of these days all these ideas need to be thrown into a google Docs, and everyone should donate as much money as they can, and a real director should be hired, real actors, and maybe someone professional to actually read over a script.

So although the movie itself was not what it could have been, it at least points the future Slendermovies in the right direction.

tl;dr, we need to write a script and pay someone professional to film it.

I did think, actually: what would a good Slender Man movie look like?
