Push PM Chat and Question Guidelines

The live chat is scheduled for Sunday, December 1, 2002, at 8:00 pm Eastern, 5:00 pm Pacific, 1:00 am (2 Dec) in London, and 10:00 am (2 Dec) in Eastern Australia.

The chat will be held in #unfiction on the Chat-Solutions network (irc.chat-solutions.org). The channel will go into moderated mode at about 10 minutes before the hour, meaning only moderators and PMs will be able to talk. If you do not have a chat client installed, you can connect using the ARGN java client located at http://www.argn.com/chat.htm.

The moderators will be our designated screeners. Currently, we expect them to be: Gupfee, Aveena, Vpisteve, Imbri, and Martavius. If you would like to ask a question, PM (private message) one of them only once, saying "Question." They will put you in a queue and when it's your turn, you'll be called upon and voiced so that you can speak in channel. Then, ask away! You'll be allowed one question and one follow-up per turn. Please use your best judgment regarding the questions you ask.

If you will be unable to make it to the live chat, you can post your questions to the announcement thread on the Unforum. Please post to this thread rather than starting multiple new threads just for questions. We'll do our best to get these questions asked as well, and we'll be posting the log of the chat as soon as possible after it is over.

We're looking forward to seeing everyone there!

P.S. If you're using mIRC, you can hide all of the join/part messages by clicking on the channel icon in the upper left corner of your #unfiction window. Then click events and choose "hide" on the various pull-down menus there.

Also, we'll be sure to post a chat-log afterwards.

For anyone not familiar with IRC, here are some tips that should help with the Push PM chat:

The chat can be accessed in a couple of ways:
1) via a client like mIRC at irc.chat-solutions.org, channel #unfiction

2) through the java client at http://www.argn.com/chat.htm or http://www.unfiction.com/chat/

After the channel is placed in moderated mode (approx 10 mins prior to the start), you will not be able to speak in the channel until it is your turn. To be placed in the queue to ask a question, you will need to PM (private message) one of the ops with "Question".

To PM an op in mIRC or the java client, simply double click on the op's name from the nick list on the right-hand side of the screen. This will open a separate window. In the java client you will need to select the 'Person-to-Person Chat' tab in the info window. Then you can type "question" to be placed in the queue. When it is your turn to ask a question, you will type the question in the main chat window.

If you are using the java client, be sure not to close the browser window or you will lose the chat session (even if the chat space has been floated out of the browser).

Hint: If you already know the question(s) you want to ask, you can take the typing pressure off of yourself by typing the question up in advance and cutting and pasting into the chat window when it is your turn.

Chat logs cannot be saved from the java client, but there will be a complete log posted after the chat is concluded.

Hope to see you there!
