Candle Cove was awesome! The first season finale is one of the best episodes of any television show I've ever seen! Never was sure what was the deal with the screaming episode, though. Broadcast musta screwed up or something.

Damn shame they never released that on DVD and don't do reruns anymore. The lack of any real record of the show makes it almost like it never existed.

Oh, and the weirdiest thing happened: apparently Korra IS actually on DVD here! Except, no-one put the 'Avatar' on the DVD title Sad

(Which is a lot of whaaat?)

I've ordered in the trade paperbacks of the comics as well. (More Zuko! More Aang! More Suki!) Although, is there a significant break between the mini-series and when the regular series started and when the first season of Korra aired? Inevitably, they are both going to tie-in to each other (and I know that the mini-series before the regular series has a huge link to Korra) and I don't want to get too far ahead in the comics and spoil Korra for myself.

I know you guys are joking, but torrents just aren't my thing Sad

Korra has never carried the "Avatar" in the title, due to copyright issues with the movie with the blue people (which I don't understand, because Avatar: The Last Airbender long predates Avatar: The Alien Pocahantas.)

A long time passes between ATLA and Korra. Although the comics do tie in in some ways, and there are a reasonable number of references to the original series in Korra, you're not at any risk- neither series really significantly spoils the other. I suppose it's entirely possible to watch Korra without seeing ATLA (not that you should), although I'm not entirely sure how clear some of the mythology would be if you did so.

...And, rereading your post, I'm confused now. What mini-series are you referring to? There are three main parts of Avatar right now:

1. The original series- Avatar the Last Airbender.

2. The follow-up comics, Avatar: The Promise and Avatar: The Search, neither of which is an essential read to watch Korra, nor do they spoil any elements of Korra. There's no real risk of getting "too far ahead" with anything here.

3. The Legend of Korra, the new ongoing TV series, currently in its second season.

Ah, I thought The Promise was a mini-series of sorts to the regular ongoing comic book series....for some reason. I'll probably still read everything in release order anyway, I'm kind of a completist that way Smile

As for the name...I'm guessing that since the 2009 James Cameron film has entered public conciousness in a huge way, they didn't want the kids who weren't old enough to see the original Avatar series to believe it was an animated spin-off, which is kind of understandable.

I thought Avatar (the James Cameron) was pretty much average, honestly with an unfortune unintended white savior hero (which probably WASN'T the way James Cameron intended, but it is there). "Let's go back to Africa and everything will be better and simpler" moments were unintended cringeworthy and also problemaic: both African tribes and here in Australia Aboriginal societies had their own problems and issues and wars and concerns. That's not to say that the Western world couldn't learn with how such cultures did and continue to live with the environment, but to argue that these societies didn't have their own problems is just astonishingly racist.

(Perhaps the sequel will explore that, but I'm not holding my breath)

Yeah, maybe he should watch a little Candle Cove before bed, that's what I do whenever I can't sleep.

You have to go...INSIDE. You know I watched so much of that show that my parents put me in a mental hospital for a while when I was a kid...I heard that place burned down later.

Wow, weird-- my Sideburned Messiah used to hang out in a mental hospital, he checked himself in there to heal the sick and other philanthropic activities like playing the Atari 5200 with the manic depressives to help them build self-esteem. It was great for awhile, but the Serpent Sarah burned it down because she thought she wasn't getting enough attention-- so everybody began actively ignoring her because she's not an important part of the story. Silver lining to all of it: They rebuilt it as "The Sutton House for the Emotionally Troubled."

Oh, dude! Me too! We have so much in common, I love us! But still, my absolute favorite video-game? Polybius. Good times.

Why the hell are we now discussing creepypastas like they're true stories? Also, if you want to talk about a game related creepypasta, I suggest looking for Killswitch1989. It's nice and weird. Not totally creepy, but it makes you want to know more and there's not more.

Or you could read the Haunted Majora's Mask creepypasta, but the author of that is a pretentious dick who doesn't understand that when he starts wildly speculating about shit that hasn't been confirmed by the news, he is fearmongering.

Wow, the Slendy mythos is so prevalent that some people know of him but don't know what creepypasta is? I'm torn between that being awesome and too bad.

You should know what creepypasta is if you know Slenderman

Not neccessairly - I came to Marble Hornets after reading a Den of Geek article on found footage movies and someone mentionced the series in the comments...

I've since then become very well-informed, but someone who doesn't frequent here and is more of a casual fan might not.

I, admittedly, found Marble Hornets from the Slender game. Shame on me I guess
