Left-handedness is less common (The internet tells me 15% of people), but not necessarily abnormal. Although it does make it harder for me to cut with scissors Sad

It's a proven fact that lefties were actually supposed to have a twin, but in the womb they devoured their right-handed sibling.

Don't think that's true.

If you are left handed or right handed is due to your genetics. Right handed being the dominate gene, meaning it only needs one of the genes in the pair to be right handed for you to be right handed. For left handed as it is the recessive gene you need both genes in the pair to be left handed genes for you to be left hand. All this said, you can also teach yourself or be taught to use either hand, but this is determines the hand that comes more naturally.

For example, your parents could both be right handed, you could have the left handed genes but as they right with their right hands they may teach you to right with your right hand rather than your left. But generally when your a young child before you learn to write you probably coloured in pictures (not very well probably) but you would of held the crayon or whatever in your natural hand so when you learnt to write you would of picked up the pencil in that hand first and wrote like that rather than being given a pencil and shown how to hold it and stuff.

Anyway, that's your biology lesson on right or left handedness.

So you're telling me this is something genetic that people can pretty much ignore if it really IS genetic since you can learn to write with both hands....

There's a shop near me that sells left-handed scissors and all other kinds of left-handed goodies. The best is the mug with the hole in the rim so that if you drink out of it with your right hand, you'll end up with a lap full of coffee.

Ztakk, your genetics determine what comes naturally. Ambidextrous people still have a natural hand but learnt to write with both. Most of the time

Isn't it possible to be genetically ambidextrous? I thought it was.

I just realized that Captain America the Winter Solider is coming out on Alex's Birthday.

Do you think Alex will take time off from his mental rampage to go see it? (If he's still alive).

I'm just saying it really doesn't matter if it's genetic since most people can learn the opposite hand as well. Just useless trivia that it's determined by genetics.

Well, people *can* learn the other hand, but it takes effort and the vast majority of people don't bother. So since most people will stick with the handedness they were born with anyway, it's not really so useless to know where that comes from.

I'm going to pop in here with my psychologist glasses on and point out that no behavior has ever been purely genetic or purely learned. There tend to be varying degrees of both in play.

Now that I've gotten that over with YES HOLY CRAP THAT TRIBE TWELVE WAS AMAZING. Horrifying, but amazing.
