They were probably inspired by the entry that has Alex kill the guy in the tunnel. It'd be weird if they thought the slenderman would take the classmate away like what happened to Bruce.

They didn't mention Marblehornets, I think they just read the stories on the wiki. If they watched a Slender Vlog they probably would have realized it is fake.

I wonder if this story will lead to problems for the Marble Hornets movie or future Slender games.

You've got too much faith in humanity.

idiot children

the blame is placed on them for completely misinterpreting the plot (nobody is ever shown trying to get on slendy's good side directly) and manufacturing slendy lore (a mansion? really?)

It's possible the mansion bit came from one of the Slender mods that placed the game in an abandoned mansion; maybe they watched a playthrough on youtube or something.

That said, I haven't heard anyone complaining that vidya games or scary stories are corrupting our children, which hopefully means media and pundits are starting to move away from such knee-jerk reactions (in terms of blame-placing, that is; the whole "leader of the Creepypastas" bit should indicate shoddy reporting is still alive and well.)

A trailer for S1. This is a follow-up to my previous teaser trailer I posted on Halloween. Trailers for the next two seasons and additional TV spots coming soon. Very Happy

Ugh, now they're calling them "the Slenderman Stabbings".

if simply reading a bunch of text on a wiki convinced them, do you think they'd see through a vlog? At least a well executed one? Bear in mind these are unstable, impressionable 12 year-olds.

Hey everyone,

Just throwing my two cents on the whole recent unfortune incident.

While it could be argued that many Slendy series could use some sort of parental lock for some of their content, I can't really see how a typical twelve year old could have been influenced to do what they did. While we love the Slendy vlogs, let's face it: they do strive, but can't always achieve realism and it is very clear that what is going on is pure fictional shennigans. Something clearly was very wrong in those poor girls heads which lead them to do what they did, here's hoping they find the help they desperatly need.

I wouldn't be surprised if the one girl was the "leader" of the two and was either very screwed up or a sociopath or even possible Antisocial Disorder case (because she's at the age when budding sociopaths and AD cases start tormenting animals just to find new ways to do it, and when the Game Commission starts getting notices about strange squirrel immolations on farmland, for example--and I don't kid because I have a particular case in mind). If she's the former, then something musta collapsed inside of her somehow, and then I really do feel bad for her. But the other girl I'm sure was likely impressionable or just gullible or maybe also screwed up and went along with her friend maybe because she looked up to her or just thought she was cool or whatever. (I hate to say it, but in this case they wouldn't be too far removed from the Boston Marathon bombers--if only to the extent that the one brother seems to have had a breakdown and snapped, and his younger brother went along with him because he looked up to him.)

EDIT: I have to admit that I feel horrible and wicked uncomfortable even speculating about a kid like this without knowing her. But I actually remember a couple of cases like this from my own youth (not with the actual attack, mind you, or the attribution to the influence of a mythical character; I mean sociopaths and potential AD cases).

Well, on a lighter note, here is a funny image with zero context:

Oh great, there was another stabbing being attributed to Slender Man. I guess it's easier to sensationalize the spooky faceless boogey-man and the "effects" of violent video games and the internet all in one fell swoop than it is to just report the truth, that some people in this world are just batshit insane.

And I have to agree with Marble Hornets the guy on this one, it's stupid enough to hurt someone based on a fictitious thing, but to hurt someone based on a fictitious thing whose fictitious shtick you get wrong is a level of fail I can't even comprehend.

I've been away for a while. Have the Marble Hornets gang addressed the stupid bullshit going around? What about other creators like EMH?

Thanks in advanced.
