Lithp, marry me. I want to have prescriptively perfect children with you. <3

I'm afraid of commitment. And children.

Sometimes I use "could care less." I look at it this way: I COULD care less, but I don't care enough to care less. Does that make sense? Too bad.

Flammable and inflammable both mean capable of burning. The word "inflammable" came from Latin inflammāre = "to set fire to," where the prefix "in-" means "in" as in "indoctrinate", rather than "not" as in "invisible" and "ineligible". Nonetheless, inflammable is often erroneously thought to mean "non-flammable". This safety hazard has been avoided by the use of flammable on warning labels referring to physical combustibility. In the United States the word inflammable has been largely abandoned in common, scientific, industrial, and written language.[1] Antonyms of flammable/inflammable are non-flammable, non-inflammable, incombustible, non-combustible, uninflammable, or simply not flammable.

It has a better title, though.

You, good sir, are becoming a hater.

Becoming? Please. Mr. Green

I knew rewatch was a real word. You know what really pisses me off? Fucking "irregardless." No, I don't care if Firefox & some other dictionaries recognize it, I won't accept that bullshit. You can't just...stick a negative prefix on a word that's already negative! NO!
You'll love non-inflammable. It's been a "real" word for a LONG time. You'd think Flammable and inflammable would have all states covered.

You do realise that flammable and inflammable mean the same thing, right? So non-inflammable is a perfectly legitimately way of saying something cannot be easily set on fire, or nonflammable.

Well I haven't really seen you as one thus far. I mean yeah you hate the junk out of Sarah, but that's cancelled out by your love of Tim.

True, I do feel compassion for all living things... Except Sarah.

Lithp seems to have discovered this -- thus the outburst

I think we need one. I asked Zarggg to mark this OT/OOG, because it's morphed away from the OP's intent. (Not that I mind that, and not that I didn't contribute to making it worse. But I think that those who are not obsessed with orthography, grammar, and usage shouldn't have to be subjected to our ranting unawares.)

I despise it when someone refers to the building that houses a book collection as a libary Rolling Eyes -- when I hear that, I have the urge to snipe, "I prefer it when my fruit is truthful."

And when the hell did plead become a regularized verb in court proceedings? I do not want to hear that a defendant pleaded "not guilty." He pled. If he pleaded, he was begging, not declaring. Gah.

I actually love Etymology. I look up a new word origin almost everyday just to know it. I'm such a nerd. And I'm in my mid-30's I've been doing this a long time.

I hate that too. Through common usage, ironic and irony now officially means exactly what we all know it DOESN'T. GROWL.

I'm going to chime in here, because we're waiting and because people using ironic as a description for something that actually fits the situation really chaps my hide too. When my oldest son was eight, he won a dental health poster contest. The prize was a plaque. There is some real irony for ya. He pointed this out as ironic. If he can understand it at eight years old, it absolutely infuriates me that the world at large gets it wrong so often.

Nice, he sounds like a sharp kid.

Can't say I hear people misuse "irony" all that often, whether that's because it doesn't happen or I just ignore it I don't know.
