I don't know if it's out of sentiment, but I have to disagree with this; I had always conceived that Operator was something like "a" Slenderman, or at least an apparition that's remotely related, especailly when the two share so many qualities that I think you've disregarded. I even remember, in the earlier entries when Alex and his buddies were sneaking around a basement, one of them said "I think I saw the Slenderman..."

As far as the way Operator compares to Slenderman, they both are often found inthe woods, prey upon young people (furthermore children because of how young Alex was when Slendy first showed up), both cause extreme paranoia and personality changes, hate water, and look pretty much the same. I know some might argue the latter by saying the original Slenderman had "tenticles," but I don't believe that's even true. I think that germinated from the circulation amongst the interwebs, not to mention that the oldest sighting pictures there are of Slenderman show him lacking his octupus-like apendages.

I don't know why they decided to dub Slendy "The Operator," and although I could always be wrong, I don't think the entire intention was to distinct him from the Slednerman myth.

I think the reason they used the word operator was to give them more freedom with the creature and try and separate it from the other mythos a bit. However, it's based on slenderman to an extreme degree it's just the operator is their version of it.

that would be an awful reveal. alex clearly didn't know about the operator until they began filming marble hornets (seen by entry 2 and 12) - they are trying to keep the story as realistic as possible, to say the operator just plopped onto earth because alex wished for a "friend" on his birthday... comeon. how would you enjoy that resolve?

It might work with a time travel bent to it. Not saying this is what's happening, but this is a possible explanation for that theory.

Alex encounters the Operator during the filming of Marble Hornets, which echoes the Operator into Alex's past. He wasn't there originally, but the encounter stretches back far enough that he is now. Hence the weird visual of the Operator on the birthday tape rather than an actual sighting.

Jessica also mentioned having dreams/memories about seeing the Operator watching her as a kid, but she only first heard about the Operator a few weeks prior because Jay pulled her into Alex's drama. It would be a huge coincidence for Alex's GF's roommate to also have been stalked since childhood by the Operator, so alternate explanations could suffice.

It would be a cool reveal if they communicated it properly, since it would mean that encountering the Operator ruins your entire life - past, present, and future.

I know I'm going to get the old it's unFiction reasoning for this, but the one thing I see herr is the amount that people hold so tight to theories from last year. If you want, I'll write up a full spec and post it in a separate thread from the videos, but what we've seen in this video where Alex is "so dramatic", we should get the idea clear now that at least Alex was in with slendy around the time if the trailer discussion. I have to look more closely at the Jay character to find his purpose in the key characters beyond creating Marble Pornets the Hotel Documentary. The other thing is letting some characters go as specific plot points and nothing else (currently looking at Amy, Jessica and "Bruce"). As far as the mod goes, I can take this to the OOG thread if I must, though I would like to say that as far as ARGs go, Marble Hornets is not one by a long shot. Though if uF wants to play by the rules that we still act as if we don't know that the series is ending in the video threads, that is fine, but line to me becomes very blurry as to where our discussion can go as far trying to figure out how it will end, which to me seems to be the game we are currently playing for.the series. Anyway, until I get chance to fully write out my seemingly unrealistic for Marble Hornets with heavy OOG reasoning speculation, or the next video comes out with new plotpoints to piece in, I'll stay off this board.

P.S. Mods, if there is anything you would like clarify about the rules of Marble Hornets specific thread edicate, could you please PM me.

- nobody ever said "I think i saw the slenderman"
- operator was only found in the woods one time (entry 40)
- jay and everyone are already out of college, they're not young (slenderman takes children not young adults)
- original slenderman does have tentacles
- neither of them cause paranoia directly, the paranoia comes from the stalking
- nothing confirms that the operator "hates water"
- the operator causes audio/visual distortion and sickness in people, slenderman doesn't

i'm not saying it's not based on slenderman, that would be ridiculous. i'm just sayin that outside of the tall guy with no face in a suit they are very different

btw does anyone else have a hard time reading ieisuk's posts? not hatin, but i have to read each sentence a few times before i finally understand what it means. it's in perfect english for the most part i don't know why it's so hard for me to read lol

1. I don't want to sound condescending here, but I'm pretty sure your're wrong. I specifically remember my friend and I replaying that particular clip multiple times because we heard one of the guys use the actual term "Slenderman."
2. But he supposedly hangs out there in a tower, Jay and Jessica assuming they're being watched indicates he was near, the operator symbol was on the ground there, and there are sightings of him there all the time.
3. In any event, it doesnt matter because Operator supposedly started stalking Alex when he was much younger.
4. You might be right, but I don't know about that.
5. And the stalking is courtesy of them, so they do cause the paranoia in a sense.
5. It's a popular indicated theory and I believe it goes with the original Slenderman tale.
6. I never said they were exactly alike. I do think the Slendysickness is a work of deviation.

In any event, just remember this is all light-hearted. I don't want to get into an argument.

And this is why I use the term "Slenderator". Apart from being "for the lulz". Wink

Also, I don't have trouble with ieisuk's posts. If you can translate Tharol speak, you can translate anything. Razz

"Slendorator" is a might handy term. I don't know if I'll ever completely let go of my assumption that Operator isn't like a..."breed" of Slenderman Laughing...but I can agree he defintiely has distinctions. It's just that the original tale is so obscure anyway, so it doesn't seem like any "changes" they made are all that significant.

Why is there a debate about this?

It's not like Slendy has a birth certificate. So different people are obviously going to call him different things IG.

You can conceptualize whatever you like ("conceive" is not the right verb to use here), but that does not change the fact that the Operator is only based on the Slender Man. It is not intended to be the same thing.

Yes, this is an OOG explanation, but it's an important distinction to make.

This comment made me laugh. Razz

Anyway, I didn't see anything creepy or seemingly sinister about Alex in this entry. So, maybe he was just in the beginnings of his paranoia. I don't know. Maybe the next entry will shed more light on this.

I don't consider them different characters. They look exactly the same and share at least 90% of the same characteristics. The biggest difference is their names, which doesn't even count if you don't consider them different characters.
