UPDATE: www.coyotedispatch.com

www.coyotedispatch.com has been updated. All sections are new, and there are many interesting stories in there, including a Holiday guide page full of references to the players and a news story that has religious fringe groups blaming Catalina's aurora borealis sightings on the Last Days, and they say the Four Horsemen are coming. Shocked

Also an editorial that has undertones of peasant revolt a la Tale of Two Cities. There's a new wordsearch puzzle that forms a sentence. I'll work on it when the kids go to bed.

Sin_Vraal solved the puzzle and made a really nice Excel file out of it. It's a very big word search for what's actually in it, and could possibly have more than what meets the eye.

Sacrifice $150? That's an od way to put it. Maybe Jack wants to catch up on games he's missed?

Given that it has a copywrite notice of 2000 I don't think so.

Um, paging Tommy Tutone, or anyone who remembers music pre-1987.

Large mop? I know someone who fits that description...

Sacrifice $150? That's an od way to put it. Maybe Jack wants to catch up on games he's missed?

Being a baseball amateur (rounders, anyone?) I decided to follow up on the 'sacrifice' comment:
Quote:

Sacrifice: A statistic that is recorded if a player intentionally (or sometimes unintentionally) hits the ball for the sole purpose of moving a base runner to the next base, fully expecting be out.

Is Jack looking for someone to take a fall to help him out? Or has he made a 'sacrifice' to protect / advance someone else?

The use of the word "sacrifice" is interesting as it has a specific meaning in baseball as well as other definitions.

I took this to mean that Jake was selling his preseason tickets for far less than they were worth, which is surprising as from the logs he seems to enjoy baseball. Usually this means a seller is desperate for cash.

Which is in itself surprising because he came up with the $1 million bail bond. FYI, to get a bond, the fee alone is 8% or 10% which means that someone is out $80,000 or $100,000 (plus $10 or $15 fee for the court) and that someone has good and sufficient collateral to backup the bond in case Jake skips town. (The only people so far that have that kind of money are the government agencies -who I have been thinking are against Jake, even though that makes his arrest a very bad move for them- and the law firm L3. THis supports my spec that caretaker is Landau)

I checked the Diamondback website and spring training tickets do not seem to be on sale yet, so I couldn't check the prices.

Also, FYI, the Diamondbacks actually do play spring training games at home in Arizona, unlike most other teams which play in Florida.

A request - can Sin Vraal's file with the wordsearch puzzlebe converted to something else so that those of us who don't have excell can open it?

Baseball explanation - FYI only

Quote:
Sacrifice: A statistic that is recorded if a player intentionally (or sometimes unintentionally) hits the ball for the sole purpose of moving a base runner to the next base, fully expecting be out.

As a baseball fan, I have to add that this definition of sacrifice is typical of the silly complexity of the rules. Can something be done "unintentionally" and still be "fully expecting" a result?

The best examples of sacrifice are bunts or the sacrifice fly.

"Sacrifice" is only important for statistics. A position player's batting average is one of the most important statistic and is calulated by dividing hits by "at-bats". This indicates a player's proficiency in getting a hit when batting. Not all plate appearances by a player count as "at-bats"

When a player "sacrifices" he is out, but that plate appearance doesn't count as an"at-bat" in determining the batting average. Thus, a player is not penalized when he makes an out that advances a base runner and benefits his team.

After writing this I realize that I am wandering off the path here. Sorry.
