Are bronies really that bad? I mostly just watch MLP without dealing with the community/fanbase, but I've seen bronies post critiques of episodes on Youtube that were generally well received without butthurt shrieking or anything drastic.

oh that's the public face. You have to go onto our own chat rooms, like equestria daily, to see what 90% of bronies are actually like. No it's not the porn or anything like that all fanbases have that issue (marble pornets is a thing) the "celebrities" are all just douches with really big egos. Look up mandoponies latest video on how he views "haters". It's basically him stroking his own ego for 5 minutes.

All I know about My Little Pony is that it was popular with little girls in the 1980s and someone wrote a 620,000 word fan-fiction of it set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. The King James Bible has 790,000 words, making this My Little Pony thing just shy of being the new bible.

Yeah, that's the one. I'm not sure, but I don't think the Lord of the Rings books have that many words in them, combined... Wait a minute, I have the internet-- let's find out.

The Lord of the Rings trilogy, by J.R.R. Tolkien...

The Fellowship of the Ring: 187,000 words
The Two Towers: 155,000 words
The Return of the King: 131,000 words

Total: 473,000 words.

Fallout: Equestria: 620,000 words.

Roughly 150,000 words longer than the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy, and 150,000 words shorter than the King James Bible. Just for shits and giggles, let's throw the word count of The Hobbit into the Lord of the Rings word count equation and... wow. Okay, never mind, it still doesn't come close to the pony thing, which is also just 90,000 words longer than David Foster Wallace's epic novel, Infinite Jest. This means that if there's ever a sequel to Fallout: Equestria that's even half as long as its predecessor, the Bible will become the second-greatest story ever told.

Raaaaaaage.

Your discussion above makes me want to simultaneously cry and burn any My Little Ponies that are lingering in my house, which will likely cause some small-scale rage. Things might not be pretty for a while here.

Yeah, I think porn is pretty much inevitable in any fandom. Marble Hornets has some pretty graphic, rapey fanfiction itself. Like Entry 45: Unabridged Shocked . Also, a 620,000 word fanfic? That's crazy dude, who the hell has that much time on their hands?

It's not like bronies have to spend time with their girlfriends, or anything. Que the rimshot!

Only one I know anything about is Max Gilardi of the .MOV series, but he seems like a good guy.

And a few years ago a team of like-minded writers, animators, etc. who were hired to make the new generation of the series decided that even though it was a franchise designed essentially to sell toys, they wanted to put a crazy amount of effort into it and turn it into something that was actually good, so that's what they did. People took notice of the quality, and so a fanbase outside of the initial target demographic was born.

I've thought about reading that, but it seems like that would be a massive undertaking.

I could be wrong, but I think the Fallout: Equestria series has multiple people contributing to it.

Time to let my Anti Brony out a little:

Of course most fandoms churn out porn from time to time, but it's a matter of degree. Amount. Content. Also, last I checked, no one in Marble Hornets is a pony. So the beastiality content is like 98% less. And you have to admit, when you're so desperate to prove to the world that watching My Little Pony doesn't mean you're not a mature, normal adult, that's some pretty damning evidence to the contrary.

See, I've heard this claim, but I've seen this show, and it's really not very good. It uses many the same stock characters and themes as other shows with the same demographic. The animation is maybe even a little sub-par for the genre.

Take this example. That suit is rather crudely drawn, the background is lacking in depth, there are few detail lines on either the background or the characters, shadows and trees are just kind of circles or squiggles, the female unicorn's legs bend in really weird ways, the male's hardly bend at all even though he's walking, and their heads honestly look kind of catlike to me.

Never google shit like that to see if it's real, because it will be. It's like 2 Girls 1 Cup, a bad car accident that you can't look away from no matter how much you want to.

It is pretty good. Characters have similar designs, so in that sense they take a bit of a shortcut regarding the animation, but when they want to do dynamic shit with the animation, they do, and it usually turns out rather well. Characters that they want to look different actually look different. They're also able to do computer generated 3D type animation without it being an eyesore. As for the themes, they use the same themes as other stories of that nature, as is the case with most works of fiction that follow specific archetypes, but the characters are three dimensional and the stories tend to be interesting or at least fun to watch, and it pays an impressive amount of attention to continuity.

I know that. I've been on the internet since 1994. I just didn't think that a fan-fiction composed of text written by a rabid fan would be so... graphically detailed.

Yeah, the world of fan-fiction/art can be a frightening place if you don't tread carefully.

Like Trans Formers and the abortions that Michael Bay made starring that white trash transvestite? Megan Fox?
