Pravado's comments are always inflammatory, so I doubt any writing instructor would side with him.

Again: semantics are important. It's all about perception. If someone says "I really liked the editing in this!" and someone else responds with "the editing was awful", it's gone from simple discussion/debate to potential flamewars. It's part of the reason, I'd bet, that you get so much flak here--you don't pull any punches with your opinions, which is fine, but they're all framed as fact.

Of course they're your opinions, but again, it's all in how you phrase it.

And it's the way Pravado words his opinions that sets people off. The two problems with this are, first of all, as Pravado said, he's simply giving the rest of us enough credit to assume that we know the difference between fact and opinion, and second of all, most of us word our opinions in this same way.

Exactly. Not to the ignoring part, but to the "any rhetorical writing instructor would side with Pravado here" part.

On this specific issue? Whether or not to "word your opinions as fact"? You can doubt it if you want, but it's true. You're not even supposed to use first or second person pronouns in professional writing, which would make any variant of "my opinion is" totally impossible. Now you can say this isn't a professional setting, but because of that, it's up to the individual to determine where he or she draws the line between Oxford MLA and chatspeak.

Geneaux mentioned the other facet--even when not writing proessionally, we do this all of the time. "That was such a good episode." Worded as fact. "Tim's acting is really good." Not phrased as an opinion. We only have a problem with it when the opinion disagrees with ours.

TL;DR: If you want to claim he's inflammatory, find a better excuse.

Whatever. Write as you please. But don't start being rude and arrogant in a thread where everybody is discussing the entry peacefully. Don't be acting like your personal opinion is something everybody else should agree.

By the way I never mentioned any names. What Pravado did made me come here and complain yes but it was something I was already feeling unconfortable about way before.

I say, if posters like that make you complain, then feel free to complain.

We're not in a professional setting, and therefore you are allowed to feel upset about whatever you want. You don't have to say 'it is my opinion that Pravado/whomever is being intentionally obtuse.' You can just say 'So-and-So is being obtuse.'

My biggest complaint with Marble Hornets is the fucking flat out fact we still don't have any answers why the Operator is involved in this.

EMH-They taunted him-he showed up
Trible Twelve-Um.. well sorta i guess. Inter dimensional being part of a group controlling time.
Dark Harvest-He's an Egyptian god.

Marble Hornets-Nothing.

Not worded as fact. Worded as a statement. Do not confuse the two.

Lol agreed. Not knowing makes it way more scary.

What the fuck else are you going to phrase an opinion as, a question?

Sounds like lazy writing to me. But we don't actually know why Slenderman is involved in EverymanHYBRID. People assumed that he came because he was made fun of, but that was never confirmed, and judging from the fact that the Habit/Slenderman duo seems to have been active for a long time, it seems unlikely.

WRONG. It's kind-of knowing that is scary. The idea that Slendy might have good reason to come pay you a visit is what freaks me out at night, anyway.

This made S1 way more scary for me, for instance. The idea that just using a camera could summon him fucked me over quite a few times. Now in S3, I don't own a gun, nor know Alex. So I guess I'm kinda safe. Boring.

You're WRONG. RAAAAAAAAAGE.

Except all of those series did cross-overs with each other so now none of the origin stories make any sense because they're all supposed to exist in the same universe.

Which is why I don't like cross-overs.

I sort of agree with you. Season 3 is not scary anymore. Though I don't know if that is why. Too long of a break without a scare. There is no more urgency

But you DONT KNOW how to summon the Operator... and... and you dont know his origins... I guess what i meant was "you don't know him, you just know he can come and grab you anytime he wants" PLUS you'll forget everything... well that scares me more than knowing his backstory. xD
For example, I watched the Shining, great movie loved it but everybody says it is fucking scary. I don't think so, I'll never spend 3 months locked in a hotel alone lol but the Operator? You dont know how to make him appear or disappear and stuff.

Not comparing Troy Wagner to Kubrick...

He doesn't come grab anyone.. ever. He just shows up and people get away without fail. Except Tim, and he got away seemingly unscathed despite being left prone and helpless. The Operator, unfortunately is about as threatening as a caged dog. Lots of noise, kind of scary if you get too close, but overall, nothing to really fear.
