 		I gotta be honest. I didn't much care for DBZ after the Freeza saga. The villains just became too over powered and all the earth fighters (not the saiyans) became useless talking machines.

Pretty much. The Cell saga had its moments, and I dug the parallels it drew between Vegeta, who felt threatened by the strength of his son and held it against him, and Goku, who's greatest wish was to see Gohan surpass him, as well as the whole idea of Goku sort of passing his job on to Gohan, who suprasses his father in strength in the end. Still, I could never get past how after they built up Freeza to be this impossibly strong anomalous entity who was so powerful that he himself couldn't control it, all of a sudden this scientist on Earth just up and builds shit that dwarfs him. With Cell I can understand it, he's got Freeza's DNA and pretty much everyone else's in him, but the other androids? Particularly the ones that were purely synthetic?

 		Most of DBZ was a complete ass-pull, to be honest.

The Dragonballs from Earth had only 1 wish at first, and then 2 wishes.
There was some limitation about them that Shenron was only able to bring a single person back to life per wish. Or something like that.
But then they completely forget all about that and let him bring back everyone who ever died on Earth.

I mean, I still have nostalgia for the show, because I loved it when I was a kid...
But thinking about it now, pretty much all of it was a total ass-pull after the Freeza saga.

Well Shendron could bring back as many people as you'd like, it was Porunga who had the "one person per wish trololololo" rule. But yeah, blowing up Earth was a shark-jump. At a certain point you've gotta ask "why wish back everyone with the Dragon Balls. They've already gone to their eternal rest, and if we pull 'em out, they're just gonna wind up back there again one day anyway" and from what we've been shown of death in that show there ain't much difference between it and being alive. In the Buu saga they even had to come up with that bit of absurdity where if you die while you're dead you just cease to exist.

That's all I had up until I started watching Kai. Speaking of which, every DBZ fan should watch DBZ Kai, because it's pretty amazing, particularly the english dub, wherein Funimation finally does it right.

Well seriously. How many times can Goku give his life for the good of humanity? He's kind of an absentee father, if you ask me.


Goku only died twice (three times if you do count the heart disease). Krillin's died 4-5 times, etc.

The show was actually supposed to end after the Frieza Saga but Toriyama was basically forced by Weekly Shonen Jump to keep it going. That's why it became nothing but ass-pulls.

If I remember right yeah, but then Evil Buu formed from the smoke that expelled from Majin Buu, then they fought, EB absorbed MB and Super Buu was formed.


And the Earth Dragon Balls had 1 wish then 2 wishes because different Namekians made them

I thought the same, but Toriyama has cleared it up in recent years. He never intended to end the story after the Freeza saga, but he had intended to end it after the Cell saga. Though if I remember right, he wasn't forced to continue it after Cell, but did so simply because of pressure from his fanbase. That part I'm not completely certain of though.

Bah. Freeza powering up literally took an entire episode, but he threw like 3 punches against Goku. Maybe this is the way it's always been, but that's not how I remember...well, the latter thing.

Dragonball was pretty much always ass-pulls, & I've seen it claimed that it was supposed to end just about everywhere. I don't believe you can be "forced" to continue a series, because if that were true, Kubo wouldn't have ragequit on Zombie Powder & FMA would still be ongoing.

I can't believe I've gone this long without saying any of the following:

 		Yes, it was. Of course, Nickdub, so possibly edited. Though I don't see why they would edit out punches, kicks, & generic blasts of energy.

No, I will not look up the original online. I was just watching it because it happened to be on, & I was curious about how they'd redo Freeza's stuff.
