Yes, it was. Of course, Nickdub, so possibly edited. Though I don't see why they would edit out punches, kicks, & generic blasts of energy.

No, I will not look up the original online. I was just watching it because it happened to be on, & I was curious about how they'd redo Freeza's stuff.

Everything in Kai is cut short, so if it did take Freeza an entire episode to power up, then it probably took five or so in the original series. Still, the only instance I can think of where that would have happened was when Goku was allowing Freeza to power up to 100%, but that stretch was less about Freeza bulking up and more about Goku's anguish at the loss of his friend and his reasoning behind letting Freeza make his power maximum (a combination of his inherent Saiyan lust for battle and his desire to not just defeat Freeza, but to humiliate him).

Can you guys bring the rage back on topic, this is getting a lil out of hand

Pfft, whut? We're talking about a show where the characters are literally powered by rage.

The show was actually supposed to end after the Frieza Saga but Toriyama was basically forced by Weekly Shonen Jump to keep it going. That's why it became nothing but ass-pulls.

I thought the same, but Toriyama has cleared it up in recent years. He never intended to end the story after the Freeza saga, but he had intended to end it after the Cell saga. Though if I remember right, he wasn't forced to continue it after Cell, but did so simply because of pressure from his fanbase. That part I'm not completely certain of though.

Ahh, even still it SHOULD have ended after the Frieza saga but anyways. It was from the pressure of the fanbase that WSJ forced him to keep it going (Which btw, they can 100% totally do)

Go read the series Bakuman. While it may be a fictional series, etc. It's a pretty accurate look into the manga industry. Authors/artists submit a work to whatever company they want to showcase their work and if the company likes it and thinks it'll do good, they offer the author/artist a contract to continue the series and it goes from there. If the author/artist continually does good, then they continue to offer the workers contract. Now I don't know if the company blatantly says "Continue this series or you're fired", but they can refuse to run anything by a certain author/artist unless it's a certain series basically forcing them to continue a certain series if they want paid. I know they can obviously end a series early though.

I might agree with that, if the Frieza Saga wasn't kind of blah. Frieza himself makes a good end boss. Everything else...blah.

It was when he was moving between his basic form & his first form, I believe.

Then explain to me how popular things ever end.

It's awesome in Kai. No filler, quality voice acting, the deeper plot points and internal struggles aren't removed, the dialogue is faithful to the original Japanese, it's just, it's just great.

They left it long for dramatic effect I guess (though it probably still is shorter than it was in the original show). Been a while since I watched that episode, but I think the point was to establish that Freeza was more powerful than Vegeta and co. could have imagined.

Why did Freeza want immortality again? Just so he could be "trololol i cant die im stronger den u" or something?

Just being unable to die doesn't make you stronger than everyone else. Bad example, but the Garlic Jr. filler arc in DBZ.

More importantly, why would anyone want to be immortal? Living forever sounds like the worst possible thing that could ever happen to anyone. You'd just get bored of it all eventually.

Then again, he's a supervillain with a power level of "Over a million". I don't know how guys like him think.

At best Freeza was an aristocrat, at worst a spoiled child. He wanted immortality simply because he wanted everything, and that was part of everything. Wasn't so much about strength, because Freeza fancied himself the strongest there was, it was about longevity, eliminating the possibility of ever dying of old age, and being able to hang on to his petty shit forever. He held onto this line of thinking up until he met Trunks, after which his mind was rather split on the issue.

All of my comparisons are coming from Kai, though. I haven't watched the original DBZ in years. If anything, I think Kai is worse, because of the aforementioned 3 punches thing. Let's not kid ourselves, if I'm going to watch DBZ, it's not going to be for the deep story & psychologically-driven dialogue.

Also, yeah, not seeing why it's so hard to understand the allure of living forever. Personally, I find all of the arguments against it to be a crock of shit. "People you love will die!" That happens in the course of your normal life span, but relatively few people kill themselves over it. "You'll get bored of living!" Doesn't happen to people who reach 100, see no reason why it should happen to someone who's lived to a million, a billion, etc.

Dying kinda sucks.

That's why Freeza was always my favorite DBZ villain, he seemed the most relatable.

Especially when you have super fast space ships that can take you anywhere in the universe. I doubt you'd get bored anytime soon.

Fair enough. I liked Funimation's first dub when I was a kid, but I can't really watch it now, which is why I like the idea of Kai so much. It's like having a show you watched as a kid sort of grow up and come back with you still being the target audience, only you're older. Or something.

I think Freeza's only forseeable problem would be that one day he'd come to realize that without meaning to he had blown up every single one of his planets for one reason or another.

Guess that'd be as valid a hobby as any. What's he gonna do for company though? Trick question, the answer is volleyball.
