Okay, I know a subject that can crumble the very fabric of society even more than people who like Doctor Who versus people who don't like Doctor Who...

Is "James Bond" actually a codename, and not the character's 'real' name? This would explain why the man hasn't aged much since 1962. But if that's true, why is it than in For Your Eyes Only, does Roger Moore visit the grave of the woman Bond married in On Her Majesty's Secret Service in which 007 was played by George Lazenby? And why does Timothy Dalton refuse to catch the stocking in Licence to Kill and when Felix Leiter's wife asks him why, he tells her it's because "he was married a long time ago, but she died?"

Go.

James Bond is the same guy, all the missions happen relatively close to each other so he doesn't look like he's getting older.

But it's clearly the 1960s in Dr. No, and it's clearly the late 2000s in Skyfall.

I like all the Bonds, Daniel Craig is great, but Roger Moore is my favorite.

He's the most sensitive of all the Bonds. Just like how Michael Keaton is the most sensitive of all the Batmans.

Actually, the Daniel Craig James Bond's are meant to be set before the Sean Connery ones, I think, if I remember correctly. Because they mention that group in Quantum of Solace that is very prominent in the Sean Connery ones as the bad guys and they know nothing about them. I don't know. It's James Bond, he's a badass apart from that one guy who sucked arse so they got Sean Connery back to do the next movie while they found another guy. I think it's "On Her Majesties Secret Service"

Daniel Craig is his own rebooted Bond. The rest of them are the same character.

While I like Daniel Craig, he is far and away the least James Bond-y of all the Bonds. The "take no prisoners"/brute force character is cool and all, but James Bond is supposed to be suave and somewhat gimmicky - not dark and serious. Pierce Brosnan (and Timothy Dalton) movies exemplify this IMO. While everyone has their "favorite" (Mine is Pierce) - Sean Connery is the best one, but I hope that goes without saying.

Edit: I should clarify that because Bond doesn't have a set continuity, you could easily view Craig's Bond as a prequel-Bond - but it's clearly its a series that is its own darker, more grounded reboot. (It ignores all "future" events.)

Edit, edit: Can't believe anyone thinks Voyager is better than TNG (or DS9 for that matter) its literally "Gilligans Island In Space" after a while, because you know they aren't going to get home and they are always inventing wacky solutions to try to get home, but it doesnt matter - because you know they won't get there. Not saying its a bad show, I like it, but no way is it better than TNG or DS9.

There, I fixed it for you. Wink

Also, Connery is the best Bond, Keaton the best Batman. That is all. Razz

Did this thought of Bond's "continuity" get inspired from a Cracked.com article? I've always thought the best route of logic with this dilemma is to not think about it at all. It's James Bond! Story and structure are not that important. As for favorite Bond, mine's Pierce with Connery being second. It's sorta' like Doctor Who, the one you first started watching is typically your favorite. P.S. My rage is if Marble Hornets is always referred to as MH, Everyman Hybrid is EMH, and Tribe Twelve is TT, then I say DarkHarvest00 shall now be referred to as DH00. I will accept hearing it pronounced out loud as "Doh", like Homer Simpson would say it.

No, I didn't even realize cracked ran an article about this. I've known about the code name theory since the first time I watched a 'Bond' flick, when my father was trying to explain to me why he kept changing actors.

My dad just told me cause the actors get sick of playing James Bond, or they just need a new one. Not that James Bond is a code name. His code is 007
