The Illusionist is a totally separate movie from the Prestige, and they are nothing alike at all. Having said that, the Prestige is miles away the superior movie.

On the subject of "not having Edward Noton": Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale, Michael Cane, and Scarlett Johanssonn (and David Bowie!) are all bigger gets than Edward Norton and Jessica Biel.

Edward Norton is worth at least three of all those people.

Why?

Hugh Jackman was in Van Helsing, one of the worst movies ever made.
Christian Bale will always be Patrick Bateman in every movie post-American Psycho.
Michael Caine I will only remember for The Muppet Christmas Carol.
I can't name a single movie with Scarlett Johansson or a single good movie with Jessica Biel.

Furthermore Ed Norton had the common decency to avoid the trainwreck that was The Avengers at all costs.

The only reason people think Edward Norton is amazing is American History X and Fight Club, since then I can't think of anything that great with him. Oh, Primal Fear was awesome, too. I would choose a Michael Caine or David Bowie movie over him. He's about tied with Christian Bale in my eyes. To say he made a good call by avoiding Avengers is a bit ridiculous, though. He choose to do that shitty Hulk movie but not the Avengers? His only reason he didn't do Avengers was because he wanted more money like a typical baby Hollywood actor and didn't like the fact that Robert Downey Jr. would make more than him. That told me he's a pretty big headed snobbish dick.

And by somewhat, I mean not very.

(smarmy picture)

What, you were one of the six people who actually enjoyed that three hour commercial?

I understand this point agree totally. I was merely stating that I would often see one listed in the guide and tune in to find the other. The Illusionist was better than OK, but the Prestige was smart and suspenseful with the whole "How is it done" competition between the magicians. The ending sequence was a little over the top and all for a magic trick..? But still a great film overall.

Going to go an entirely different route with my rage: Just finished last night's episode of Game of Thrones.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT BALLS.

I have not read the books, so I had no idea this was coming.

That was shocking.

Once I realized what was happening.

When that door closed.

When the band started playing.

It was gut wrenching.

Oh god, that was the most traumatizing thing I've ever seen on TV.

What the heck is that show, anyway? I keep seeing the books at the store, but I don't get HBO so I've never seen it.

Seriously, though, it was a powerful episode, even though you might almost wish it was less so, because it was so depressing.
I already hear people saying that they are going to stop watching the show now, because the creators killed off every single positive character. This is not actually the case, but I understand them.

I'm actually glad I didn't read the books, so I didn't know that was coming. That was literally the most terrifying, shocking, and heartbreaking thing I've ever seen on a television set.

Serum, just watch or read it. You will not be disappoint.

Disappointed. And I can't watch it because I don't have HBO. We're not exactly living in 1996 where I can just slip the cable guy fifty bucks and get all the channels for free.

Heh. If only there existed some sort of a global network that you could access via your difference engine and which could be used to transfer information from one person to another. If only such a network was invented, perhaps there would also exist a way for its users to view the episodes of popular TV shows, a way which, while morally dubious and not quite legal would be little different from slipping a cable guy 50 bucks. Sadly, we can only dream about such futuristic technologies, what with this being the year 1913 and everything.

Yes, well, I think it's a good thing that said "global network" doesn't exist, because if it did, people would only use it to bitch about movies and share pornography with one another.

I watched the first two seasons online. I'm shelling out the cash to watch S3 on HBO right now though. So worth it.
