It's about equal, really.

Yes it is. You don't leap to a ban every time someone annoys you. If there are easier solutions, you take them. If the rules are too harsh, it just causes more problems, up to & including everyone just going somewhere else.

No. All that a given rule's existence means is that the admins decided to do it. Admins can do whatever they want, regardless of whether or not it's a good idea. It doesn't "have to be that way," nor do I "not get it" because I'm not one.
This last statement so much. Admins are human and make mistakes. I have been an admin for a few forums and games and I'll tell you, there wasn't always a rhyme and reason for everything we did, or the reasoning wasn't always sound. No one is infallible.

I've been known to edit "Neo was here" into random posts. In fact, one time, on this one board, me & the other admins had a conversation in this one guy's post by editing in new lines of text responding to the previous edits. Most of it was just us arguing over completely unrelated bullshit, such as telling the one guy to stop changing his font color or shut the Hell up. By the end of it, we had to have stretched it out by at least a dozen times its original length.

No, even Tim is. He's close, but not quite.

The easier solutions aren't working.

We weren't chosen because we don't know better. If we're following the rules we don't have to worry about them being too strict because we wouldn't be breaking them anyway.

This is also a false logic. Admins aren't necessarily chosen for any particularly redeeming qualities. I opened my own site and had a few thousand users. The fact that I was an admin was based on the fact that I opened the site, and spoke nothing of my qualifications to do so. Nepotism and bad hires are existent almost everywhere. Now, I will say I don't think it's the case here and that I also think the admins are doing a decent job. But being an admin or moderator doesn't necessitate you have any clue what you're doing.

EDIT: Oh I fucking hate you.

I think the rules are fine the way they are. They obviously don't let the moderators remove threads with posts in them because they may be a discussion point. However, I think the rules should be amended where if someone is clearly posting a fake entry, that the moderator should be able to delete it even with responses, instead of just moving it to some graveyard thread. It makes no sense to not let them do that.

You guys crack me up. Laughing It's bad enough we changed some rules ONLY in the SM/MH subforums already, now you want the admins to give us mods new rules and powers simply because you can't police yourselves? Rolling Eyes This is a very old forum, and over the years our ways have worked just fine. The only place it doesn't? Here. The SM & MH subforums. In my mind, that doesn't mean *UF* has the problem.

We are volunteers, we do the best we can, if you have a problem with us or the rules or anything, you can PM us - bring something to our attention. If you aren't a jerk about it {aka don't yell at me that i'm a nazi for deleting your avatar when it is the 4th one you have put up that is WAY over sized and breaks the established rules}. Yes, i admit, there have been times when it takes us a bit longer than we would like to get something {like a banning} done... but that's on us, and really shouldn't affect you {much}.

The Admins and the Mods here ARE I assure you chosen for good reasons. Sure, some of us are a twinge on the snarky side {I'm the resident angry midget for a reason} but we do know what we are doing, and when we don't we have a nice private place to talk it over with others who do.

Might have something to do with those parts having 5-6 times the amount of traffic than the rest of the site.

Actually, it has something more to do with the average age of the majority of "players" for these "games" as opposed to the rest of the site - trust me, we got a lot of traffic in many games in ebbs over the years. Because, again, this site has been in action for 11 years, and the closest we got to the kind of strife caused in these subforums was in the cloverfield subforums, and THAT was because of 4-chan kidlets... Age, again. {note, not that everyone who is a youngin is trouble but typically that's the age these trolls/troublemakers are}

This thread has entered some kind of Twilight Zone of rhetoric that I can't even follow, so I'm just going to boil my post down to simplest terms:

1. All boards get spam threads. They are usually posted in by others.
2. Most just delete them. Nothing of value is lost.
3. Only UF (to my knowledge) considers it a problem, & starts debating about how to handle it.

That's literally all I'm saying.

It was meant for me. Specifically, it was meant for anyone posting in reply to his post. I just happened to be the one to cash in.
