Can I rage at rage? Is that allowed? Holy crap some of this reading was painful. Most notibly...

Canon: accepted as happening in the story. Sometimes referred to as "in game". For marble hornets the only canon things are the twitter feed, the totheark videos, and the main channel. NOTHING ELSE effects their universe, and isn't happening.

Non-canon stuff is not happening, or doesn't exist, in the universe. Some examples would be troyhasacamera, these forums, fanfiction, and the dvd's.

Fanon would be stuff like "the guy in the white shirts name is Steve" "hooded figure is hoody" no it isn't official, but if you mention it in the community people will know what you're talking about.

I'll consider the twitter account actually part of the story, when it actually AFFECTS the story. Until then, it's just a neat roleplaying opportunity. Nothing more.

All right, I'm getting sick of your abuse of the concept of a shared universe, so I'm going to go ahead and actually tell you how you're wrong here.

Comics. Let's look at comics. Hell, as much as I don't want to, let's look at DC's New 52 reboot (and I really don't want to).

Specifically, the Batman and Nightwing titles. For twelve or thirteen issues now, the two have been separate comics with separate stories. There has only been one scene that happened in both books, and in one of them it was fleshed out and explained longer. Nothing in these books has had a direct effect on the other. And yet? They still share the same universe. They are still both canon.

What you are doing here, is you are saying that because Nightwing doesn't affect Batman, then Nightwing is just "a neat roleplaying opportunity". And quite frankly, you cannot be more wrong.

Troy writes and updates the twitter. It is part of Marble Hornets. It announces video updates. It is part of the series. Stop being a bitch about it and let it go.

The twitter is always part of the story. Just never an important part.

I'll concede that the Twitter posts are not crucial to the story, but I only reword my previous statement to replace the word "important" with "relevant."

I think Troy intends the MH twitter posts to be primarily be "previews" of what he's about to say in the videos. When this series started, not many people subscribed to the channel or got email updates whenever there was a video, so Twitter (and the old SA thread, very early on) was the primary way of letting people know.

Now, it's mostly a little bonus, showing some cool images or Jay's thoughts for flavor. However, like Cougar said, it's still canonical.

Precisely. This is why I don't think they need to or even should give us pointless twitter updates in between entries just for the sake of filling a gap.

I came into the series at a time when twitter had already begun to be nothing more than bonus content. Because I saw it as nothing more than bonus content, I did not consider it part of the story. And as I saw it, not being part of the story meant it wasn't really part of main canon.

To be perfectly honest, the middle part of your post is basically what I've been trying to say. To me, it's just a queue that a new entry is on the way. Not many people in the MH fandom watch troy's out of character account, so not many are clued into the unspoilery screenshots. The MH twitter works just like those unspoilery screenshots. It tips us off that there's probably going to be an entry soon.

It does not matter that it was created OOG as a device to complete certain tasks. It is, IN GAME, POSTED BY JAY, OFFICIALLY IN THE MH UNIVERSE. This, by absolute and pure fact, makes it a 'part' of the story, universe, and canon. It doesn't fucking matter if it contributes even absolutely nothing to the plot or story(which it does); it EXISTS in the universe.

If you already understand this, which I could not deduce completely from your reply, then I apologize for the irritability. However, if you still cannot comprehend this, let's just drop this topic.

Also : Whether or not they should update the twitter or use it as a main plot device is a completely different topic. I think both sides of this argument have good reasons to support the ways they feel.

Why not? Scott Snyder's Batman run has been one of the best monthly storylines in a long, long time. Tomasi has also been knocking Batman and Robin out the park quite regularly, and I shouldn't even need to mention the so far exceptional Rise of the Third Army plotline in the Green Lantern titles.

Sure, there's a lot of bad stuff out there (The Dark Knight, I'm looking at you. And you too, Deathstroke), but the good stuff is REALLY good.

Jay has not made any tweets about being shot out of a canon, or being shot by a canon, or hearing a canon shoot nearby and peeing a little.

Everyone shut up.

Well, then, you're wrong.

Put simply, you don't get to choose what is and isn't canon. The Twitter and its updates are canon. If you don't want to follow them? Fine. Don't. Nobody's going to force you to do something you don't want to do. But quit yer goddamn bitchin' about it anyway.

ETA: Forgot about this:

You're mentioning three titles out of fifty-two, not counting the ten titles that have already been cancelled due to low sales (including the very good Captain Atom, and the fantastic JLI book)and replaced with what looks to be somewhat lackluster fare. (I mean, really, Talon? You're fucking joking me, right?)

Also, you're neglecting what the changes mean. There's no reason that Tomasi and Scott Snyder couldn't have been writing killer storylines without making the changes they've made in continuity (including what appears to have been completely eradicating Final Crisis from continuity). And I love Green Lantern. (Oh lord, do I love Green Lantern.)

But I also loved Clark Kent and Lois Lane being married. And I thought Stephanie Brown made a damn good Batgirl. Now she doesn't exist, and Clark and Lois are barely friends, let alone an item. It's the frustrating changes, and the fact that DiDio and co. seem to have jettisoned long-term fans of the comic in exchange for new readers. It's frustrating.

Also they hired Rob Liefeld.

Okay, I'm done with comics for now. If you want to continue the discussion, the PM box is open.

Just want to reiterate that I think I have a valid raeg that the fans should get an OOG or IG tweet hinting at the next entry, so we aren't waiting for ANOTHER fucking month with nothing to go on - especially when the last time we had a 3+ week wait, there was no IG explanation for the silence.

You must not watch Doctor Who.
