 		I'm fucking sick of films like sinister and paranormal whatever pretty much making knock-offs without any dues to the people who helped make the genre

although this maybe is the fault of slender for causing the mythos' rise in general, it still pisses me off

it shows pretty much zero creativity on their part, fuck you directors
ugh RAEEG

(at least they can make their bad spinoff movies on time... newentrysoonpls? Wink)

Checked IMDB. Dude is only credited with finding it in the mail room. No writing credit.

Slenderman is a popular online mythos. Hollywood is doing what it always does, attempting(and failing) to capitalize on something seen as popular.

Do you really think Kirill would fuck over the boys like this? He's still working with them actively to this day and if he did something like that they would find out about it and be pissed.

These are the only excerpts I can find of Kirill being mentioned in the same breath as Paranormal Activity:

"The film was screened at 2007's Screamfest Horror Film Festival, where it impressed an assistant at the Creative Artists Agency, Kirill Baru, so much that CAA signed on to represent Peli." (Wikipedia)

" Discovered the film Paranormal Activity while working in the mailroom of the Creative Artists Agency. " (IMDB)

Any other mention of them together are repeats verbatim of these sentences.

So it was already a "thing" when he saw it, and he convinced someone further up the food chain that it was a good idea to get it past just the indie circuit.

He has never been said to have any involvement with the first film outside of what you read above, and has never been said at all to have any involvement with the sequels.

I don't know what weird-ass grudge someone's got against Baru that they would make that shit up, but until you have even a modicum of evidence, you shouldn't be trashing someone like that. It just makes you look fucking stupid.

Now if some evidence arises otherwise, I will gladly eat my words. Until then, you have no business damning someone like this.

This Baru guy is not even listed on the full cast and crew list of the IMDB pages for any of the Paranormal Activity movies. I went and checked how IMDB confirms their information, and they actually work to confirm this kind of stuff with studios. The only reason anyone thinks this is similar to MH is because of ONE trailer for paranormal activity 4 that had some video distortion and a creepy kid turning to the camera. Which is nothing new to the found footage genre.

"Is the material found in the "Paranormal Activity 4" trailer copyright infringement?

Unfortunately, no, it is not. No one has a copyright on static appearing in film. And really, filmmakers should be able to utilize that special effect in their movies without much hassle on their part, as movies have utilized static to signal the arrival of ghosts or other paranormal entities for many years now."
