Hey guys, I'm new to this ARG and it looks really cool! I was wondering, though.

Do we players have a chatroom to converse through, like an IRC room? Or do we just communicate through here?

I went ahead and registered #tungsten on the chat-solutions.org IRC we use for everything else. But don't expect much traffic there, so continue to post your thoughts and spec here, it's what we do.

p.s.
We got a new post by the FiXeR:

A new post on Sam Marconi's blog, as he promised. It's rather long, but what we have there is some progress on the Suzette case and a second case which is all about mysterious disappearances of people living near the walls. The deaths from before are also mentioned and they turn out to be the consequence of some gang warfare.

I think that those disappearances are somehow connected to that goal Fixer wrote about.

There is also another new post by Fixer himself:

Quote:

I propose an exchange of information.

Tell me what you have gathered about the situation, and I shall fill in whatever holes I can.

I wish to see just how closely you are watching.

Is this agreeable?

-Fixer

I suppose we can use the information submittal form, since we haven't been provided with an e-mail address.

So, I'd try to point out some things I consider important:

- the government is corrupted and the governor himself is very suspicious
- the air isn't safe and needs to be filtrated, possibly due to some ruins outside the city walls which produce thick smog
- mysterious abductions
- there are no private cars in Tungsten and all of them are rentals provided by LaFontaine (if there are any at all? this is quite vague); anyway, the transportation seems to be very important for the story; also check out the latest Tribune post, in particular this part:

Quote:
While under his ownership, Espinoza Industries completely rejuvenated the city's rail system.

There is a big space between "Espinoza" and "Industries" which doesn't quite fit (and, sadly, cannot be reproduced here). Maybe it's not just "Espinoza Industries" but "Espinoza <something> Industries"? Quite strange, still.

- Chairman Nielson is a FTM transgender Very Happy

Any more suggestions? What we certainly need to know is what the hell has been happening in the past 1000 years and what the world is like in 3K17.

Did you notice that the Tribune posted that crossword for the second time? Didn't we solve that earlier? I kinda skipped that part, so I'm not sure.

I don't know it anyone else has noticed, but apparently LaFontaine Industries is accepting applications now.

Got confirmation from Sam Marconi that the disappearances only happen at night:

From what I've gathered so far, they seem to only happen at night. Trust me, I've been making sure to get out of therre well before dusk. I'm pretty dedicated to my job, but not that dedicated. Thanks for worrying, though, I appreciate it.

I really am only lurking but its driving me crazy wondering whats up at the
East District children's park. A month ago they were sinking a "pirate ship" in the small artificial lake.Where did this ship come from and why were they doing this with a boat that was "built to float"? Then 6 days ago the TT reported that a child drowned after being trapped in it. Strangely by then it was just a lake but the ship was " artificial". Now a fence is being erected. Is the gov' stashing something?Damn pirate ship! ARG I say... Embarassed

minor update in the Tribune, a list of school graduates. Congratulations!

(returning two days later, didn't want to bump with a double-post)

Today the Fixer posted this:
Quote:
It seems no one wishes to come forward with what they have learned of the facet of reality in question.

Perhaps it would be easier for you if i were to pose more specific questions?

Let us start with this one:
What aspects of this reality differ from your own?

-Fixer

Something about this approach really rubs me the wrong way. I need to stew on this for a while before I start a rant.

This seemed like an interesting ARG but it's more pleased with keeping it's secrets than actually making it engaging.

Me, I always dreaded essay questions. Give me multiply choice any day.

Anybody got in contact with Fixer yet? Now that I have some free time, I'm planning to get onto it and try to answer his questions. It wouldn't be nice if the game just died like that, I like the material we saw so far a lot.

meh. I used http://fi-x-er.tumblr.com/ask to point out something I thought was inconsistent in a recent entry on the Tungsten Tribune. I haven't see any response yet.

I agree that the material so far was intriguing. I continued to build a spreadsheet of characters and events, right up through the litany of names of school graduates. Then I noticed that none of the children were related to anyone previously mentioned, or at least none of the family names matched. They were beginning to feel like they came out of a random name generator, but I was willing to play along for a potential future payoff. I was not as interested in the writings of the P.I. Sam Marconi, but that's my personal taste.

The Fixer blew it for me by talking about "their reality". Up until that point, I was happy to imagine an isolated corner of our world that just happened to write their dates in a different format. In the old mantra of ARGs, the characters are not supposed to acknowledge they are in an alternate reality.

And thus I give you the rant that I was holding back.

I very much agree with catherwood. While the original material is intriguing, I see a huge disconnect between that and Fixer. My gut feeling is that someone's project was hijacked by Fixer, who made a few additions and passed it of as his own. That and the fact there has been no updates leads me to believe the Skinny Guy is ready to sing on this one. Too bad.

I'd rather say it was a mistake on the PM's side. Nobody was reacting, so they tried to lighten things up a little. Seems more plausible than hijacking at least.

The mystery was too slow moving. They set up the "reality" pretty well but then left us hanging... obtuse questions and pointless puzzles aren't very fun.

I think they set up this whole world as the stage for something more mystery-esque, and that's this Fixer stuff. And while they did an amazing job setting up the world, I agree that this new stuff is much less impressive. Especially because nothing is happening.

But I can't get behind the idea of it being a gamejack, since the Tungsten Tribune Tumblr sudoku post led directly to the Fixer site. So I guess the PM just miscalculated on our interest.

I have to say, I wasn't very annoyed by anything the Fixer did. Sure, he broke the fourth wall, but no one else has. What's so wrong with the Fixer being the only person who's aware that we are in another reality, not just somewhere else on the planet?
