Pottermore
online community story thingie

I am not a Harry Potter nut, but I have read several stories recently about "Pottermore," a mysterious website which is apparently leading to a countdown to..... something (not a new book!).

The latest thing I read here:
http://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2011/06/leaked-memo-reveals-pottermore-will-be-online-gaming-website/240848/

suggests that this might be something along the lines of a treasure hunt game. If so, this might be of interest to people here...

EDIT: I changed the subheading to more accurately reflect what this seems to be.

If it becomes that, I will be on it so hard, like a rock on a rock.

I mean, I'm in.

If it becomes some kind of ARG type thing, I will be on it so fast it'll make your heads spin. <3

I'm expecting a permanent game, whether a treasure hunt or an immersive MMO. Either way, i would NOT call that an ARG, which is a limited-run sort of story-thing with a specific ending. I'd rather see people have realistic expectations and not be disappointed. It could still be fun, it could still generate interest here and even a discussion thread, but it would help to be clear about the kind of interaction to be found. (Maybe that's just me.)

Just for the record I did not call it an ARG Smile That's why I was careful to be speculative about it being a treasure-hunt game of some kind. I agree, though, that it is more likely to involve some kind of permanent online presence, perhaps as a social community/media site, with a game-like component. An MMO would be interesting, but it seems to me that something like that would have been marketed in a completely different way...

and I know you didn't, thank you. I wanted to step in sooner before the rumors got flying (on a broom?) Sometimes a countdown is just a countdown.

Looks like it's for sure a treasure hunt.

I'm in. I hope there's something around here, I want a wand.

another source of info agrees
http://www.digitalspy.com/gaming/news/a326251/pottermore-website-to-be-online-harry-potter-game.html
and it's good to see that multiple countries can participate.

Sorry, whenever someone talks about real magic wands, I always think of the MagiQuest resorts. Their wands interact with the exhibits! http://magiquest.com/shop/wands/view-all-products/

To be honest, if there are free wands to find I'll probably be on it anyway, puzzles or no puzzles!

Love those MagiQuest wands. How have I never heard of that before? That's a fantastic concept.
