wiki at http://pietroradillo.wikidot.co is now almost up to date.

Some things are still missing, like the knights key puzzles or some intermediate puzzles, like the one with the dart.

Feel free to add information (I will cleanup if youhave problems with formatting)

I know that I'm behind/befuddled by all of this, but if someone could please help my simple mind get a grip here.

I got the Facebook post from Pietro (which I guess some got via email) with the subject "Coins, skies, and viewpoints".

If I'm reading it correctly we're all supposed to submit our answer in some creative way. I think that's great, but I don't understand what we're answering. The phrase "What is it to be human?" is underlined in the message; is that the question we're answering?

Sorry to sound completely confused, but I'm trying to figure out what to do next.

Any thoughts?

Whilst I being the twonk that I am answered both questions:

How you identify a machine/program from a human?

and

What does it mean to be human?

and then gave a final answer as how you test a machine/program.

I gave myself a little out by adding a postscript: Can a machine understand humour?

Both 'rooms' can be entered w/o a PW & thru the 'glass'. In both there's a hyperlink to a chess move that am only hiding so not to 'spoil' anyone's fun in searching.

We had a nice, long chat with both Vladimir and Sergei not long ago. I thought I'd post the chat transcripts here for everyone to see.

Please bear in mind that the conversation with Sergei has been edited as he himself requested.

Quite an enjoyable chat with Vlad. As for insults: grammar is appalling

Not a bad epitaph really: "He loved to argue but his grammar was appalling" I could live with that or not as the case may be.

Vlad is a blinkered, easily provoked fanatic.

Sergei was however quite vague in his answers more how a person would speak using the Chinese room.

To sum up Sergei is fun and Vlad is funny! Who should be our second is obvious, I've messaged our King to that effect.

EDIT: It seems to me that PR is beginning to sound like Andrew Wyke's character in the 1972 film Sleuth with Laurence Olivier:

I am lost. What is going on?

From the latest posts by PR on facebook I assume the Bishops have got some new puzzles. Why is noone sharing those. I guess even PR is confused about the hiding tatctics.

The Bishops have been in deliberation regarding the challenge entries submitted to PR, but there have been no additional puzzles released that are being kept secret from anyone. Johnny Exploits will be unable to continue the game due to other concerns, so he has resigned his position as one of the Red Bishops. Que Beast has been promoted into that spot, leaving Red currently down one pawn. Efforts are being made to fill the space.

Due to the number of entries being even between Experience and Innocence, it will be up to the King of each side to plan their own second move. Experience had a majority of entries which appealed to Vladimir, while Innocence's were more to Sergei's liking; as a result, Vladimir will be the Second for Red and Sergei will be the Second for Green. Links for each of the "brothers" can be found in the respective rooms:

The closest thing to a puzzle has been a cryptic post by Pietro on both Twitter and Facebook which refers to someone "By A Failing Moon". The phrase has been in quotations in each place that it has appeared. Possibly an anagram?

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Possibly 'Bio Naming A Foil' ?

The Skype chat is still active, and discussion tends to happen there fairly regularly. Also, as CyRei mentioned, #Sinople on freenode.net tends to be where the III (PR/Vlad/Sergei) address multiple people at once.

Channels also exist on irc.arg-irc.net for discussion of matters as a whole (#PietroRadillo) and for Red and Green Court matters (#RedCourt and #GreenCourt, respectively). Arg-IRC can be accessed either through a standalone IRC client (mIRC, ircle, ircii, ChatZilla, etc) or through Mibbit. To connect using Mibbit, go to chat.mibbit.com and select Arg-IRC in the Connect drop-down menu, then enter a Nick and the channel #PietroRadillo as a starting point.

I would imagine that we will be receiving a new puzzle soon, as the voting should be mostly complete and the winner of the challenge is likely to be announced in short order. Also, today is the full moon: we are moving into the waning phases now, which could have something to do with the "Failing Moon" referenced by Pietro. The phases also seem to dictate which aspect of PR is dominant, so be aware of any idiosyncrasies that might show up conversations with him.

Just thought I'd post re: state of play for those who aren't on Facebook plus some thoughts.

Apparently we are currently waiting for the Bishops who haven't "judged" the submissions received for the "What is is to be human" question to do so. Apparently they have until Wednesday noon, BST, to do so.

It would also appear, based on PR's Facebook page, that the rooks have received an image? I don't know what this is or what it entails but no doubt they will mention it soon.

We are also waiting on Innocence's next chess move. I am "having tea" with Innocence's second, Sergei, at a mutually convenient time (timezones are a pain) & will give it to him then. For those wondering about how the moves are being decided...there is method to the madness. If you want to know more, feel free to IM me.

Sergei & Vladimir (who, for those that are still a bit confused, appear to be two personalities of the three that make up Pietro Radillo...ie three personalities in one form...they are also characters who were in former stories attached to this ARG but prior knowledge of them doesn't seem necessary at the moment) made a showing today. I wasn't online but other members were. Singer provided a log of the chat with Sergei which can be found at http://pastebin.com/MkxkFJ1z Levi (Red Mosquito) will provide links in another post re: chat with Vlad & some earlier chats he has had with Vlad & Pietro, I think?

Some interesting points to note from the chat with Sergei:
a. the number three is mentioned again as being important. This could be in reference to his 3 personalities but might also be in reference to something else. He also muses that people don't listen...or watch.
b. Sergei asks WHERE I am. Now...he knows where I am as I have told him in chat when we were organising a time to meet. For those who don't know, I am currently in Australia. This might be important? Not sure how but you never know.
c. He encourages us to google his name. I have some thoughts on that in a minute.

Now...in the earlier chat with Sergei (link posted several posts ago by inkflamewriter), he has encouraged us to read about his life elsewhere...that his personal life (not just sexuality...for those who don't know, Sergei is gay) matters. In this chat today, he also encourages us to google his full name.

For those who aren't aware, Vlad is the writer Vladimir Nabokov & Sergei is his younger brother Sergei Nabokov. There is an extremely interesting & compelling essay on their lives at http://www.salon.com/2000/05/17/nabokov_5/ I would really encourage you to read it (click on the "read more") as it describes the dual personalities we're seeing here to perfection...& the *reasons* for that duality. It is really quite sad & rather enlightening.

In Sergei's earlier chat, he said:
Quote:
[17:14] <Sergei> Samael - finally - your question:
[17:15] <Samael_> As a fiction what do you consider as to the point your existence or to do put it better what is your overall goal that would make your life complete?
[17:15] <Sergei> That is two questions, both different - choose one please.
[17:15] <Samael_> 2nd
[17:16] <Sergei> Peace - being able to reoncile my differences with my past, to forgive those that have done me harm and to be able to move on - cutting my strings, as it were, of those that would control and imprison me,...
[17:17] <Samael_> like a robot with no free will...mmm interesting indeed.

[17:24] <Sergei> And thus, eight pieces, two sides.
[17:25] <Samael_> are we going pirate now, pieces of eight Wink
[17:25] <Sergei> One side private, one potentially public - I will turn in for now.

Could part of the reason for this ARG be to reconcile the personalities of Vlad & Sergei? Sergei died without Vlad realising & for no opportunity for them to put aside their differences & reconcile. Could this be an opportunity to do this? Sergei seems to have been an important element in Vladimir's works. Although he publicly condemned everything Sergei stood for (the Nobokov household was brought up under a homophobic father, despite the prevalence of homosexuality...two gay uncles & a gay son & even the Governess was fired when it was discovered she was a lesbian), Vlad clearly used Sergei as inspiration. I had originally thought maybe the reference to those that would control and imprison me was to how he'd got to be in his present form. But it could also refer to Nazis (he was put in a camp in WW2), although unlikely...or to his brother/family's hatred, etc. Not sure yet on the significance of the eight pieces.

Sergei was a big inspiration for Vladimir's book The Real Life of Sebastian Knight. You can read about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Real_Life_of_Sebastian_Knight Pay special attention to the section under Comments. These are all themes we are seeing in this ARG. Vladimir also wrote an autobiographical book Speak, Memory which you can read about here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speak,_Memory

Sergei has also suggested when googling him, to try with a "y" rather than an "i"...there is a book out that won gay/lesbian Book of the Year 2011 called The Unreal Story of Sergey Nabokov by Paul Russell. It's based on the essay I linked to above. All the factual elements are referenced in the essay...the author has simply embellished on the facts for the book. I'm currently reading it - it's very readable.

Speak, Memory also contained a chess problem. Chess is in many of Vladimir's books. If you're interested, you can read more about them here: http://www.chessville.com/misc/History/PastPawns/NabokovianProblem.htm and here: http://russillosm.com/nabsymb.html

One more observation...twice on Pietro's Facebook page, his location is stated on posted images. The one of Patience was in reference to the artist's country. The other was on one of the tally board, where location was stated as "My second Home. London Waterloo Station." One connection I can think of off the top of my head was that apparently Sergei (the real one) used to sleep with a bust of Napoleon in his bed (Battle of Waterloo reference?). Either that or he spends a lot of time on the tube...lol.

Sooooo...a long post & I do apologise. But hopefully it gets the juices flowing on the personalities we're encountering.

The Rooks Image
Spoilers!

Hi everyone! So Pietro added an image that only rooks can see, and I decoded that message last night. Below are the results if anyone wants to take a peek.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The morse code reads: Straight lines for rooks to the moon (there's a tricky line break in there so if something comes out as "aiines" put the A & I together as one character.

For the J's and ^'s, that's actually binary, the carets being 1 and the J's being 0. decode that and you'll get "binary in a different form" There was also a picture of a moon behind the coding.

I haven't figured out anything else, and I don't know what the meaning behind those two messages are yet.
