Re: A long time ago....

This post is meant as an info-dump. Feel free to skim.

Quote:

PR: "A capacity and taste for reading gives access to whatever has already been discovered by others." - Said by Lincoln, the rest of the quote goes "

The rest of the quote is, "It is the key, or one of the keys, to the already solved problems. And not only so. It gives a relish, and facility, for successfully pursuing the [yet] unsolved ones."

Quote:

PR: "Not all readers are leaders, but all leaders are readers."

Said by Truman. His other famous quote was, The Buck Stops Here.

Quote:

PR: Well Sean, your stated residence area is near a place where a golden hare was once buried...

Ever hear of a book called Masquerade? It started a trend called The Armchair Treasure Hunt Club. In the book there was a puzzle to find a karat gold shaped rabbit, in real life. The directions were provided in the said book. See this page for more information: http://www.treasureclub.net/publichunts/masquerade/index.html

The synopsis was simple: A story about a love affair between the Moon and the Sun, and Jack Hare, their four-legged go-between who carried a treasure from one to the other, but lost it in transit.

Thus, if not mentioning the search for the relic, he could be mentioning the "opposites attract" portion.

Oddly enough, Abraham Lincoln II was named Abraham Jack Lincoln. Strangely enough, he died in London. Not too far from the actual hare, I think.

Quote:

Sitting down, looking around, the grey man pauses. So many visitors, but only two things to read; how could he advise them?

Here he mentions the 2nd Inaugural Address and the Gettysburg Address. Both of which are carved into Lincoln's chair.
The more you know~

Things of interest in the puzzle itself:
There are two blocks that have less than five letters.
Block 7/10
First green column, tenth row
This one says VVAD
Block 11/11
Last Column, Last row. (Located on Green End)
This one says YMJE

This may indicate that there is more than one cipher? Or, if lucky enough, it may indicate the start/end of a cipher.

THX for the wrap-up. There could be 2 keyed ciphers & either or both addresses may somewhere be a key since Pietro's follow-up tweet was:
Pietro Radillo on twitter wrote:
When you translate the text, you will be rewarded. Until then, address closely what has been said so far...

I am reading 7/10 as "VVCID" as opposed to "VVAD". If this is actually a 4-letter block, I am not inclined to see the third character as an "A".

That actually might be more likely. Since he doesn't seem to use lower case letters and the end is to flat to be an o. However, if that is the case it warrants questioning as to why the letters are that close as opposed to the CI right under it.

I've gone back over each quintet (and the lone quartet at the end) and this is what I'm seeing:

Code:

I agree with singerofthelost, some of the characters are a little bit blurry; I think I saw some O's where she saw D's and some J's where she saw I's. I am also leaving the "V V C I D" quintet in place as-is. I believe that the seemingly odd spacing there is a result of text rasterization and .jpeg compression, so I am not lending it much significance in my analysis.

The biggest questions on the table seem to be 1) is this one large block or three smaller ones and 2) in what way is it encrypted. From what we've heard from Pietro so far, I am inclined to think that the Lincoln Memorial holds the key.

I believe it does to. However, I am also inclined to believe that there may be three ciphers.

Maybe it's just because I've been researching more about Lincoln. But he did say, 'read, write, and cipher to the rule of 3.' The rule of three suggests, " things that come in threes are inherently funnier, more satisfying, or more effective than other numbers of things."

He used the Rule of Three during his Gettysburg Address
"We can not dedicate — we can not consecrate — we can not hallow — this ground."
"Government of the people, by the people, for the people"

Add that there are three people in this picture. Maybe the rule of three is something to look at. Or maybe not.

Pietro
Good evening Player.

Me
Salutations.
How goes it?

Pietro
Currently - intriguing...

Me
Ah, what's caught your interest?

Pietro
A player's email...

Pietro
Yes - their words have made me reflect for a while..

Me:
Sounds a bit meditated.

Pietro
Sitting still does that to some...

Me:
The concept is pretty en-trance-ing.

Pietro
Smile
-name- tell me your thoughts regarding the challenge so far...

It's a bit more complicated than the puzzles I'm used to, but that's better. Since I'm on summer vacation without much to do. A bit of work mixed with some interaction with others to solve a mystery always makes for some good fun.

Pietro
Are you still conversing with -other player's name- right now?

Me:
Yes.
Just going over what we might have missed or are not paying attention to.

After a brief while, he responded.

Pietro
Regarding favourite philosopher by the way: Descartes.
Dualism...

This was in response to the E-mail I sent him, last night.

Quote:

Ever participate in Yoga? I've heard it's pretty fun.
Although, you kinda just sit there for a bit.
But they say you're supposed to picture a white ball of light.
And then they tell you to slowly visualize individual chakras.
Starting from red and then violet.

Anyways, that's just drabble, more importantly
Do you partake in Philosophy?
If you do, who's your favorite philosopher.
This is totally unrelated to the ARG,
I just kinda wondered since I picked up a book with Nietzsche's writings today.

His latest tweet also seems to confirm the Lincoln Memorial:

Some are sitting still for too long and not even looking at where they are...

Gone quiet...

Just doing some research over Descartes. And the "seat of the soul".

Ah, you can read between the lines. Good. But which lines to read?
(Possibly hinting that some lines in the cipher may be false? Or, red herrings.)

If you translate the message you will know what to do - the next action is explained within the 'translation' so to speak.

We have to figure out how to translate it. And then use the translation to solve the rest. Making this puzzle more complicated than just finding a singular translation for one piece.

This also means that there is more than one cipher.

Edit: Guys, guys, what if we're going about this all wrong. Guys, listen to me guys, what if we have to steal. Guys, guys, what if we have to steal the Declaration of Independence.

But on a serious note, what if the pictures have more meaning than we thought. I think Masquerade may bare more weight than I thought it did. There are clues hidden in the pictures. There's gotta be some meaning in the pictures of the three people.

Hi all,

Talking to RoryR and he was linked to this site about the running key cipher by mister Pietro, link is below:
http://home.comcast.net/~acabion/runkey.html

here is a liittle about the running key:
http://bloggablea.wordpress.com/2007/06/20/breaking-the-running-key-cipher-part-1/

looking at this mister lipschitz continuity may come into paly here as it explains this:
"We just "add" the two texts together, with the letters being used as numbers in the obvious way: A = 0, B = 1, …, Z = 25. This means that e.g. C + B = 2 + 1 = 3 = D. Furthermore, we do this modulo 26, so that e.g. Z + B = A. Additionally, since in our case our key is a bit longer than the secret message, we will just not use the last couple of letters of the key." This means that our encoded message is:

(please bear in mind that i haven't got a lot of time today to look to greatly into this.)

But the continuity i was able to find in its simplest for m was fx -> y which may fall nicely into the cipher also it does refer to numbers its possible that there might be a date we need or a set of number.s

hope this was helpful.

~C~

Ok. Here's the deal. I have solved the puzzle but have turned down the important role in this game due to my unpredictable schedule. I am not going to give away the answer because I want everyone to have a chance to solve it and get the reward the way the game was designed to. Here is what I'm willing to say right now...

Confirmed code from image (It's the same as the one posted above by the red mosquito with one D changed to a C):

Quote:
HSYRF WVIFN MZMZW SOKLV TNARI HULSN DYHRD RJXAH NCXKH XSDTU ORTGM
CXWCQ OPBYI PAZNH IVMHU SWOVG HPWVU GEOVM PEJOB IAKXG HYRKL CDOKI

XVQRC WJLJV PMEEU HNYQF VNVJC IASXT TNUIH WETTP QHUZV WTSVZ MRYOY
LXRAT ECTEL WMWDU RFLGL SPVKF DIOUM SBQAP FWEBI TAPKR WTBPD NKXQH
QYIIL AYGZF ASWHY FXBYW TPXPY WWBRY BXVPN FWUWM KIHVE ZSLTB EXTJV
AMAGG WHWFA MRZYK KEVQK VSJDI NTQGP JVRUM AZXKX VXWVF YTLGA QJWZP
OLMJY HSPKU LVOEY JSFOM NSJIY LILRV XUHGX HOKER RDSQS AVMVX YAPSS
PXNYL HHTCG VTLIA DTXUS QEJNS MZRGO VVCID GVERW MBOWE RGPES HVJKH
BKHKK BTYWR XTJOF LZAGN LPTAF WCBUK YBXCI IKQTJ WDTNM MFEWE YMJE

Also I will say that the code is used in its entirety and should not be split up in any way, it is has just one layer of cipher applied to it, and as many have already said here the Lincoln Memorial holds the key. Good luck.

Sadly, I also had to decline Pietro's opportunity in my email to him. Now, am nowhere near as clever as LatentMoths so this cipher is solvable 'tho very lengthy.

My hint would be that Pietro's tweet to " address closely what has been said so far" is important. It's sleepyville time but am happy to give further help if needed.

It's probably simple enough that I can't wrap my head around it. I make things way more convoluted than they should actually be.

I believe I'm in the same boat. Although I'm FAIRLY sure I know what I NEED to solve it. Its just the METHOD of solving that I'm unsure of.....
