"Off-screen" is a technicality that covers just about everything you said.

It covers one thing. Unless you mean you want no evidence of Slenderman on-screen at all, in which case, you're basically setting your standards to the point where only distortion can fulfill them.

If you want the characters not to know, it's a bit trickier. Shadows have worked a few times in Marble Hornets. Or evidence that they skipped over. Scratching marks on a tree, for instance, are both subtle & probably made recently.

I appear to have reversed my position, somewhat at least.

Things I don't want to see:

Anyone but the creators of said series deciding what "belongs" in a series.

We shouldn't complain about current series. But we can complain in general to deter future series from continuing the boring and overused tactics of some series's

I'm going to ask here just because I enjoy reading the advice; I've got a Slenderman vlog and blog in which my main character is investigating the weird things happening to her. What's the protocol/rule for mentioning or posting links to other vlogs? Do I need to ask permission to do so, even if I'm not planning a crossover or anything?

Do whatever you want. Seriously. Everything everyone posts here is all just opinion; in the end, it's up to you to decide.

As the old saying goes, "I may not know art, but I know what I like." Ignore viewers at the peril of oneself.

This thread went off the rails pretty quickly, though. What it's become is an attempt to define the box outside which a series should NEVER EVER venture.

And that'll kill a new series quicker than anything else a creator could do. It's a basic picture of the perfect series, which is also a blueprint for cookie-cutter horror.

(Basically, this thread is trying to turn kids into Wes Craven. In the worst possible way.)

Hm. Point taken. Then again, I question the need of a whole thread for that. The things that would qualify under that criterion would be pretty limited.

I would argue that this thread is trying to define a box and telling creators to think outside of it.

I've personally been using this thread to list shit I'm sick of seeing.

Proxies come up basically constantly.

Proxies and Operator symbols. Two things we are tired of. Almost hands down.

And puzzles need to have an actual reason to them

On the subject of using this thread to list negative criticism, I think that those kinds of threads would be, at least to me, more useful than positive ones. They'd tell me what things I might want to avoid, & generally how well my ideas are going. Like if there were a lot of "this shit makes no sense" type comments, I might want to add more exposition.

I don't think that they really have to turn into a shitstorm. Sometimes, it's not the thread that's the problem, but that the posters don't take it with a grain of salt.

Just wanted to throw that out there.

I just want a decent new slendy vlog. Most of the vlogs I end up watching loose me with utter silliness and tomfoolery. I want decent writing with plenty of back story. Not some silly plot where I heard footsteps upstairs a few nights ago and weird shit is happening so I decided to film EVERYTHING I DO and maybe get a few scares in. I don't want cryptic bull shit. I want good writing.
