I'm going to ask here just because I enjoy reading the advice; I've got a Slenderman vlog and blog in which my main character is investigating the weird things happening to her. What's the protocol/rule for mentioning or posting links to other vlogs? Do I need to ask permission to do so, even if I'm not planning a crossover or anything?

personally, I vote if it's the big three (or possibly the big 6), you can mention knowledge of them in passing, as long as you don't imply that you're within the same world or that they would possibly know who you are...
It just seems silly to try to call the 'MAGICAL FACELESS THING I'M SEEING' slenderman, then pretend to exist in a vacuum where you can't just google "faceless suit man" and immediately tap into a mythos...
things are just different these days

I agree with this, it makes it more realistic.

I see a lot of people complaining about distortion and stuff when slendy is around, but what do you all suggest to show slendy is near without actually showing slendy constantly?

So much negativity, guys! I think we need some suggestions of what a slendylog should do.

The big one for me is that the channel needs a clear purpose for its existence without any supernatural shit for the first five or so episodes. EMH did this pretty well. It's a great immersion builder and helps build both characters and the suspension of disbelief. So many series just plow straight in which is rather boring.

There already IS a thread for that

All the series nowadays:

This one sounds extremely specific Razz

For example, I've got one episode where she's walking around a wooded area and she mentions like Marble Hornets as an example of "Slenderman seems to be found in the woods". I was wondering if it would be okay to post links to the other channels as an example of something she came across that connects her theories. I'm not going to claim the worlds are connected, especially Marble Hornets, or really reach out and see if anyone wants to do a crossover, it's mainly going to be like writing a paper for school. You need sources, and these are going to be her sources.

Sounds okay to me, if anything, you give them more views. But, you should either acknowledge that they might be fake and make your slendy different, or acknowledge that you may be dealing with a different entity

It should avoid these things.

Gotta be honest, that doesn't sound like a good idea. It should be relatively easy for her to find out that Marble Hornets is fake.

Well, how would you suggest that a person is near, without showing them?

Exactly, unless you made tentacles wiggle into frame.

I don't think you guys are really thinking outside of the box, here.

Sounds of movement.
Footprints.
Blurred motion disappearing behind something.
Damaged objects.
Pieces of clothing.
An object associated with the character.
General evidence that it frequents the area.

I've thought of all of those things as evidence of its existence. But what about when the characters are just talking and the static builds. YOU know he is there close by, but they don't. I thought of a shadow in frame, but it might be to subtle.
