Mystery Dinner Parties?

Just curious...has anyone ever had one of these? If so, how did it go? Do you have any advice for a novice? I found a party based on the board game Clue that someone came up with and I was interested in trying it out.

These parties are almost ARGs arent they Question

A Clue one sounds fun! My husband and I just had a murder mystery party last year. Our biggest problem with the boxed versions we saw in stores was that they didn't allow for enough players. We looked online and all of the ones that were for large parties were for REALLY large parties like 30+. So we decided to just write our own. It was much harder to do than you'd think. But I sell it online now, so something came from all my hard work Wink

As for throwing the pary, here's my tips...You'll probably be the behind the scenes person right? The one who knows what is going to happen and orchestrates things? If possible, I'd get another person to work behind the scenes with you. It really helps. You'll have alot more fun with the event if you don't have to worry about everything. Split the work with someone else Smile

Also, if you're going to serve dinner, cook it beforehand and have it ready or almost ready when your guests arrive - either that or order in. You don't want to have to worry about whether the pasta is done while making sure that the party is still flowing.

It really adds to the atmosphere if you decorate the house a bit. You don't really have to go out and buy anything. My husband played "Gordon" the guy who died and whose house the gathering was supposed to be at. So we took some pictures of him dressed up a few weeks before the party and hung them on the wall in frames so it looked like "Gordon" really lived there.

Most of all, just have fun with it. Take lots of pics when it's over or if you can find an excuse to video tape during the party - do it!

It made me want to write an ARG...
