New to the forum, but very, very interested in the potential for this ARG. Have done a few in the past, most notably NIN, The Dark Knight, Valve and Perplex.

Not a great coder or anything, but I'm not too bad at fishing for details.

In terms of the video title, the last part, PAYLOAD_IN_NMKB could either mean a hell of a lot, or not much at all. THe only relevant reference I can find to NMKB is this abstract here. NKMB seems to be all about the detection and characterisation of movement in video compression. It's not an easy read, but you can probably get the idea from the Schmalz et al. article

Could mean that the info we're looking for is encoded in the video defects, possibly? Or simply that the video is filled with video defects...

I think it is likely something closer to the former hypothetical, seeing as in computing terms, PAYLOAD refers to the main point of the transmission of information. It's the important part of the transmission, when you strip away all the metadata, overhead data, headers etc etc. basically all the shit that facilitates the delivery, but is not the fundamental purpose of the transmission.

Also, however, in computing security terms, the PAYLOAD refers to the part of a virus which implements/performs the malicious code.

Either way, outright saying that the PAYLOAD of the message is IN the NKMB part of the file makes it seem worth investigating.

Maybe someone can make something of these ideas, or I might be going in completely the wrong direction, but I thought I would ruminate on the offchance.

Also, a huge stretch, but STG (as in STG2HEARSE in title) can often stand for Security Threat Group in law enforcement lingo.

Looking forward to digging deeper and deeper into this!

EDIT: Just saw that the new 4 second version of the video does not have the same title: STG2HEARSE_PAYLOAD_IN_NK***M*B* So this may all be null.

Woot. Finally a release date, November 19, as a launch title for the PS4. New trailer and pre-orders get a limited edition poster by Alex Ross.

Compare the two videos. It's completely genuine.

I'm also on board with the theory that the memorial picture on dotconneXion is of DeMarco after his death

New Website to keep track of.

UbisoftUK tweeted this yesterday

It's all about what you know and how much data you put out there. How big is your Digital Shadow? http://wearedata.watchdogs.com/ #Watch_Dogs

It currently says "Day - 1" so hopefully it'll go live tomorrow.

Today is D-DAY

Just checked the site and it now shows "D - DAY." Didn't see anything else there yet though. Keep an eye on it throughout the day.

Hack the Planet?

Hey all; newbie here. Site updated; now hosts maps of Paris, London, and Berlin city underground, overlaid with social media icons (Twitter posts, etc).

Apologies for low content; I'm not in proximity to a static device, and haven't picked up anything of further interest.

Minor edit: You can filter out media (foursquare, Twitter, instagram, Flickr), or remove the map of the underground. The menu also contains two subheadings ("Grid / Networks /" and "Urban Infrastructure" that have no filter options enabled as of yet. More to come?

Edit 2: There's an infrequent pop-up from Aiden Pearce (a "Who Watches the Watchmen"-type promo)

Clicking on an icon draws lines to nearby similar icons. Below is a sample screenshot from around the London University area. The gobbledygook on the bottom right is supposed to be a Facebook feed. If you log in, as I did, your name will show up under "Identity."

I have a question.

Does this even count as an ARG anymore?
Ubisoft is clearly sponsoring it.

most ARGs are sponsored by some big company or other, the whole reason being to drum up interest about something. like black sand said...thats the whole point
