the site has been updated, just got the following email:

Hi,

It is with great regret that we inform you that Joseph Demarco passed away in a tragic, yet unexplained accident. Being one of the most important philanthropists in the local digital art scene, his demise has left a deep void in the community. Out of respect for his friends and family, the dotconnexion exhibition will be cancelled.

Sincerely yours,

The dotconnexion Team

Dat File

Been trying to open that .dat file but with no luck.
Used Visual Studio, Word, Preview, Notepad.

Anyone else had any luck?

ps - that image sure looks good when zoomed in. This game is definitely next-gen looking.

EDIT: This seems to be relevant, so I will just leave it here. Maybe there is something on that bar code?

Also from the Wiki.
The barcode readers I found online say it's not a real barcode.

I figured that too, but with this being an ARG I opened it with a hex editor anyways. There's a name toward the end of the file, "John Bacon" that I didn't see mentioned in the body of the email anywhere, anyone have any clues about that?
EDIT: After searching ""John Bacon" watchdogs" on Google, I found this site that seems to indicate that John Bacon is the person Ubisoft hired to design the dotconnexion website: [1] http://www.behance.net/gallery/dotconnexioncom/4225265
Going to assume he's in charge of the ARG emails as well, maybe it was sent from his Outlook client.

It would be a good idea to visit this theater and see if there is anything interesting there, or go to the CTA L-Train Station referred in the wiki.

I can give it a look-see on my way home from work tomorrow. Smile

Awesome! Keep us updated.

It would be a good idea to keep up with the obituaries in Chicago as well. If we are pretending this guy really died maybe there will be something on the newspapers about him. It costs about nothing to post those and might contain some more information.

Hey guys, the Chicago Theatre as well as the state/like train station seem completely ordinary. It was worth a shot, but I think that since the Chicago Theatre technically ISN'T the Ambrose Theatre, and the fact that these events are supposed to happen in the future made it kind of a stretch.
In any case, I can always swing by there again if it becomes relevant later.

I still think the picture of Demarco holds some secrets because it's such an oddly large resolution, and clicking on the picture links to the actual full res file (something no other image on the site seems to do).

I believe you're right, I've been examining it intensely. Only thing that stands out is that his glasses goes through his left ear. Anything unique graphic or code wise about it?

The pic is a high quality CG character. I agree that there are a few things in the pic but I am not sure what to make of most of it.

He has round earnings with X's This probably symbolizes his death. It would be to obvious to put the X's over his eyes. This could also raise the question is he actually dead because he is alive in the pic. I doubt this though.

For such a high res pic. he has a single missing pixel in his left ear? How does that happen?

Oops! His glasses go right through his left ear!

There is something under his left eye. This looks to either be a symbol or an image of something. This definitely is cause to investigate further.

Under his right eye might have something also.

Neatly centered in the middle of his forehead outlined in freckles/acne is clearly an arrow pointing up.

This is what I have found at a glance without zooming or using any software to dissect the pic for hidden items.

It's actually an earing, not the glasses going through his ear. I thought it was a graphical glitch as well until someone pointed it out on reddit.

You can see it in the video as well.

It is a strange image dimension, though...

If you zoom, just using the default zoom (not DLing then custom zooming), then you can see that there is an image. A VERY CLEAR and odd image in the middle of his forehead.
