E-MAIL: Meg: New year's reply

I wrote:
Dear Meg,

I've been following your blog for the past few months, and I just wanted to write to wish you a happy new year. And I hope that things get better in the new year with you and Jake--I'm pretty sure they will.

Wishing you all the best,
xxxxx xxx

P.S. What did you end up getting Jake for Christmas? Inquiring minds want to know...

Dear xxxxx,

I'm just overwhelmed by all the kind emails I have been getting recently. Thank you so much for your note - it really means so much to me to know that there are people out there who kind of know what I'm going through, and I'm not alone in this. I do truly hope you're right, and things will get better soon for us.

I got Jake a vintage newspaper from his hometown, on the date he was born. He loved it. Lately he's been a little weird about it, but he's been acting so strangely that I'm not getting my feelings hurt that it's about the present. I'm going to try to get some medical advice about his personality and memory changes. I'm sure I'll post about it on my blog when it happens!

Take care,
Meg

I know it's a little thing, but I'm really happy that I got this. Even as all hell breaks loose behind the curtain--servers going down, whole swaths of the plot having to be kludged to fit... despite all that, an e-mail like this can still get written, and that's one of the little touches that make a game like this fun to play.

(And before I get too goo-goo-eyed... 'medical advice'? Swell. Just as Reggie finally checks out of the laughing academy, Jake is checking in. Wink )

Balazs,

Christmas was very nice and quiet. How was yours? You are still
celebrating Christmasy things, aren't you?

I haven't really done much at all to my blog other than make an entry
today. Are you maybe getting the new design confused with the old one?
I redesigned it a few weeks ago.

Take care,
Meg

She recognizes me, it seems, BUT: I already acknowledged her new design so it would be interesting to know what e-mails I've sent her in this timeline. Smile
I'll continue e-mailing her...

XXXX,

Thanks - I love to get mail. Isn't email fun? So much easier than
signing up for a pen pal, like I used to do when I was a kid.

Our Christmas was very nice. He seemed quite pleased with his vintage
newspaper, although I guess the thrill has worn off because the past
couple of days he's been acting a little strange about it. I mean, he
loved it on Christmas Day, then rolled his eyes at it on New Year's.
Not
sure whether it's a man thing or whether it's related to the possible
brain damage he may be showing signs of.

I've never heard of New River University. Is it a very big school? It
could be that you're confusing Catalina, AZ with Catalina, CA - many
people make the same mistake! In any event, I can't find anything in
the
phone book.

Take care,
Meg

It's my message to Meg, hope it succeeds:

Meg,

Christmas was exiting here with all the haste and last-time
presents I've bought. Yes, it must be the new design. It's really
pretty. Smile

I'd like to ask you to give the puzzle below to Jake. I guess he has
some time for puzzle breaking, and if he can solve it, it might
help him. Print it out if he doesn't have access to computers, altough
it would be nice to have a chat with him, too. One of my relatives
had a similar mental problem (by your description) and recovered,
so I might be able to give him advice about it.

Dear Aiesha,

I think it is something about the holidays that can tend to bring out the
best and the worst in people. The stress to have such a perfect family
moment can send people completely over the edge. Our day was very nice
and quiet. I did get Jake something he loved - a vintage newspaper from
his home town, the day he was born. He's always loved nostalgic items,
although he won't admit it.

I couldn't possibly imagine getting along without air conditioning.
Especially since I became pregnant, I've noticed that I'm hot all the
time! I'll be running around the house in shorts and poor Jake is
bundling up in a parka. Hormones, I suppose. You should have seen the
wreck I was when I watched It's a Wonderful Life. He draws the line on
me turning the air on when it's under 60 degrees outside, though.

Not sure what legal troubles you mean, unless you're talking about the
damage from the accident. Luckily the insurance covered most of it, even
though it sent our rates higher.

I'm doing well and so is the baby. I'm starting to get my second wind,
pregnancy-wise, and I am hungry all the time! Jake's not so hot. His
memory has been acting really funny lately and I'm quite concerned with
the possibility that there might be some brain damage. His personality
has taken a radical change in the past few days. I'm going to speak with
his doctor this week to see what we can do. Jake refuses to be seen.

Take care,
Meg
