This eventually morphed into a series, but the first few pages in this thread might help: http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=32400

That's a generally easy program to use.

The programs I use for my Slenderman ARG, Goomba771 is After Effects CS6, Imovie HD, Windows Movie Maker, Audacity, and Sony Vegas Pro. There are many other alternative programs such as AVS video editor, Videopad, Videospin, Lightworks, TrakAxPC, and Wax. And hell, if you're really desperate for something, just use the YouTube video editor, it isn't much but it's still somethin' you know.

My process usually goes:

Film stuff.
Dump movie files onto computer.
Separate sound and video, and pull out any clips for rendering with MPEG Streamclip.
Edit audio in Sound Studio and/or Cubase (sometimes Reason if I'm feeling saucy). Cubase is good for this as you can use it to sync audio overdubs with your video.
Effects rendering in AfterEffects.
Reassemble the whole shebangle in iMovie and export.

It's probably not the most efficient way to work, but so far I've only had one major cockup. My aim throughout all this is to do basically anything to avoid loading up iMovie or After Effects until I absolutely have to because they grind like a concrete sloth.

I just want something free that is good with editing, you know, compiling files, cutting out bits of vids, that kind of stuff. It should, also, be good with effects & audio, jus askin' though.
