Or maybe at the end, Jay will have his whole "everything's much better now that it's all resolved," speech to the camera. But then, white text will show up on a black screen which says "Now, there's just one thing left to do." *cut to a shot of an outside area where Jay pours out a bunch of tapes from a bag onto the ground, covers them in gasoline, and sets them on fire*

The end! Very Happy

(Hey, the way I figure it, if we crazy theorize enough, one of us has to get it at least sort of right.)

Considering all the tapes are hosted online, this would be hilarious.

Ending it by burning all of the tapes would be pretty sweet! Even if they're all online anyway... it would make sure MH is the only record of these events that will ever exist.

I think having all of the questions answered is my main stake in the series. I don't REALLY care how it ends so long as super important questions are answered, and so long as we get some epic confrontations beforehand. Wink

The ending really should reveal ToTheArk's motive. Seriously, it's been three years and we still aren't sure what he wants. Things like why Alex moved to Rosswood really need to be answered. There is no clear reason why Alex and The Operator moved so far. Was The Operator born in Rosswood or Alex's hometown?
I could spend all day writing this list.

Well, it was established in the Introduction video that Alex changed towns after canceling Marble Hornets. But it was also established he planned to burn all of his tapes, and he told Jay never to mention the tapes to him ever again. I think it's implied his whole "Skipping town" and him wanting to burn the tapes is because he wanted to forget. He wanted to get away from it all. That's basically what he's saying in the end of Entry #22.

As for where the Operator was born, that brings up the question of whether or not they should reveal Slender Man's origins in the context of this series.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Which they've said they're probably not going to.

I don't think a poor ending is possible at this rate. I think with the experience that Troy, Joseph and Tim have accumulated over the life of this series, a poor ending would be just about impossible. I think Troy and the gang have known for quite some time how it will end, and if anything, they've been tacking things on for the last few months to make it that much better; you know, additions to the finale.

Of course, just about anything is possible. If the ending seems poor to the Unfiction community, even after weeks of critical analysis of every last frame(which we have a fair reputation for Wink ), then of course we'll be very disappointed.

I mean think about it, some of us here have spent the past 3 years dedicating a significant margin of our lives to speculating and devising countless theories to this thing. Troy and co. are assuredly aware of our demeanor and tenacity to uncover the truth, and I'm sure they will blow our minds!

As to what the ending should contain, I don't even know what to expect.

I really wanted to know about The Operator, but unless we've got a case of Lying Author on our hands, that doesn't look likely. So then, what about Totheark? Well, if he/they are tied to The Operator, then we likely won't be getting much information on him/them either.

I literally do not know what to expect.

I suspect we'll learn about totheark's origins. I'm sure they have something to do with his/her/their interactions with the Operator, but when they said they weren't gonna explain the Operator's origins, they were talking about there not being some big scary story about how the Operator was created. What the Operator did that made Tim and totheark the way they are I think will probably be revealed, at least to some extent.

But it isn't just a question of what, it's also one of why. Why is The Operator doing this to them in the first place?

I suppose, if that is answered, then I will be appeased.

Personally, I'm hoping for an incredibly dark ending where everyone involved winds up dead, insane, or otherwise irrevocably broken.

This story is starting to resemble a Shakespearean tragedy more and more lately. I'd be very surprised if they could pull off a happy ending and make it satisfying. At the very, very least, these characters are gonna be scarred for the rest of their lives.

I don't really care what the Operator is or where it came from. It's a monster, that's it.
I'm more interested in why the Operator is focusing on these characters in particular.

There are also the "driving questions" like "who is totheark" or "where is Jessica".

Honestly, the only question that I will be furious about if it is left unanswered is "What is the Ark?" I believe that all of the questions concerning totheark's/Operator's motivation will be answered if we discover what exactly the Ark is.

Knowing the fates of all the characters would be great, but if some are never truly resolved I don't think it will ruin anything, there's nothing wrong with a little uncertainty.

totheark's identity is important, but I feel like we've been given many clues already directly from Jay, and that even if they never explicitly reveal every member of totheark, most people will have a pretty clear idea of who it/they were.

Sure it's important. but the way I see it, MH will have an open-end with a lot of questions left unanswered so I'm not getting my hopes up.

Actually, I think they call that a plot hole.

Open-ended/leaving room for the viewer's own imagination to contemplate=/=plot hole.

Occurance without logical explanation that usually focredly advances the plot=plot hole.

What you just described sounds like a Deus Ex Machina. A plot hole is just that--a hole in the plot.

I lean pretty hard to the "explain everything" side of the scale of open-endedness, but I'll begrudgingly admit that "leaving things to the imagination" is okay for minor things, like whether or not Rorschach's journal was recovered & believed at the end of Watchmen. But not for big things.

Why did Jay start looking through the tapes? To find out what happened to Alex. What's he preoccupied with now? The fate of Jessica. I'd say what happened to the missing characters is a pretty big thing.
