I've already mentioned several times that I am confounded that people are acting like gaining a large-but-ignorant fanbase is such a tragedy. If I had half a clue what you people liked besides Slenderman, I could probably quickly show that you already belong to at least 2 or 3 of these. Anything that gains a lot of popularity also gains a lot of ignorance.

But what I am curious about is this:

If Slenderman becomes more mainstream, there are inevitably going to be for-profit series based on him. Does that bother people?

Love how this thread changes from discussing the game, to discussing how slendy is becoming mainstream, literally 1 page after each patch.

Honestly, I don't want people to know about the origins of slenderman. It annoys me when people think slender the game created him. However, I don't tell my friends who are incorrect "no, slenderman was created by victor surge nub". I tell them "no, slenderman has been around for way longer then slender. Haven't you seen marblehornets or tribetwelve? There's a bunch of creepy images on google as well, still in black and white."

I would love slenderman to be an actual "boogeyman" that older siblings or parents use to scare their kids. That's not going to happen if we constantly point people to the original thread he was invented in.

Legally, Victor Surge made Slenderman public domain which negates monetary gain or profit made from the character.

Another Slender Man Game

I've been thinking. What would happen if the games didn't reference the rest of the mythos, but instead said "Based on the Legend of the Slender Man." Some people might just ignore this, but some might actually do research into the "Legend" Slender Man and find out about its origin for themselves. Thoughts?
