gonna try getting screencaps and audio tomorrow when i am a little more awake. in the meantime a bit of theory as to what i think is going on in the show that may help us work through some of the trickier puzzles, because this show is meta as hell: (seperating it out because it's easier to process i think)
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
i think steven rae used to be an actual cult leader.
researching this cult is what got skye's father killed.
steven rae then went on to create Cult as a way to recruit new members into his new cult the "True Believers" in the process he created billy grimm who is a fictional version of himself.
the True Believers are now trying to recruit roger reeves the actor who plays billy grimm as their figurehead.
to summarize: steven rae is billy grimm who is rockne s o'bannon. robert knepper is roger reeves who is billy grimm and those of us playing along are true believers watching cult where true believers are watching cult which is about true believers of the past. simple lol
ETA: one small detail i forgot that might be important, billy's car is seen on the show and being driven by true believers repeatedly, it's a 1970 red plymouth valiant with a california license plate reading 149 PCE, the same exact car and plate as the 1971 movie Duel by stephen spielberg. about a man being chased through the desert by a crazy truck driver. not sure of the connection but it can't be a coincidence.

Exactly. I had to tell a buddy it's an ARG about an ARG within a show within a show. And then your head explodes from all those layers of meta. Meta lasagna. Meta meatball?
Are they legally liable if someone has a psychotic break
over how actual fandoms are not nearly that cool or organized, and don't have a coffee shop
?
*EDIT* Can't do it right now but easy way to deal with that backwards audio - play on TV, record into laptop mic, then use Audacity to reverse. Ripping would be better, but it would be much faster.

At the end of episode 3 After the backwards masking. At the Very end where the name STEVEN RAE is posted in the back ground is clearly someone speaking. Someone needs to boost this and possibly play it backwards for our clue.

Excellent theory, I'm all in apart from this:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I think Roger Reeves is Steven Rae. I think he keeps recruiting by playing himself on the show he created. He just took his cult on-screen.
That's why he was so bossy at the reading, and why it pissed him off so much to be scolded by that lady.
(Do we have to spoiler-tag theories? Makes it much harder to follow, since you can't look at both theory and comment at the same time)

I slowed it down a bit more but the beginning still sounds like it might be too fast. (Since they told us to slow it down ) Will see if I can get it any better and then save.
Think you're right about the second half, but maybe not the first. Don't have an alternative answer yet though.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
It does sound like "No more ()(), give me sleep" but it doesn't sound like an "l" starting the second syllable. Something harsher like a "z" sound. I also think the last word may be "peace" not "sleep"
Okay I made an attempt to amplify, alter the speed, and remove noise from the file; I am definitely no audio expert as indicated by my inability to figure out how to get the blasted MP3 encoding library to work with Audacity So it's a wav.
Slowed down:

Slightly faster:
http://www.filedropper.com/cultbackmaskclamplify2fast
Maybe not better, but at least different. If you have Audacity you can speed it up and slow it down again which seems useful... I'm pretty sure about that last word now but this is worse than a game of telephone.
Maybe I should send an ask to the Steven Rae tumblr, ask them if we're close?

And this is exactly why people can hear "Paul is dead" hah! I can't wait for the dubstep remix of this clip...
I gave a shot at my first interpretation and sent an ask to the tumblr account, hoping they'll give us a prod in the right direction if I'm incorrect. Though I'm not sure if they'll respond on a weekend or not. They posted today but it could've been their queue.

I am siding with the original thought on this.
It is a Billy quote.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
"no more silence, give(s) me sleep"

Well if it's Billy's line then I guess that must be it.
They're on tumblr now if someone wants to try sending it to them and see what they say in reply.

Could be a change in the quote
"no more silence, give(bring) me sheep"
like more of a command?

Finally sat down and watched. The show's really good!
And I noticed in the beginning of episode 3 during the opening sequence, at the end when the static goes - I saw the letters P, E, and M.
Coincidence or something like Fringe with the glyphs?
