Terraquest Demo Solution

Note: If you're having problems with playing the game because of script errors, install QuickTime. The TerraQuest people neglect to mention that QT (probably the worst video format on Earth, if I may editorialize) is required to play this game.

You start off with the LARS interface showing a picture of a man and a woman apparently making some sort of transaction at an outdoor cafe. The audio tool at the bottom of the screen is useless for this demo, so don't worry about it. Instead, click on the second image, either by clicking the folder with the number 2 on it, or clicking on the image in the right column of the image tool. This will give you a three-quarters overhead view of the couple from behind the man. This image is the only one you'll need to solve the game, and it's the best angle from which to view all the evidence.

First of all, zoom in all the way. When you do this, there will be three things you can analyze: the man's martini glass (hard to see, but it's right in the middle of the picture), the man's wallet (the black thing on the right), and the woman's wineglass (up at the top). The martini glass is not unusual in and of itself, but fingerprint analysis gives you a dossier on the man, who is a Greek freelancer for various mob organizations. The wallet, upon examination, gives you two pieces of evidence: a Post-It note giving the date, time, and place of the transaction shown in the picture, and a plain yellow envelope. Magnify the envelope to get the number "729." A combination, perhaps? Finally, the wineglass contains a lethal dose of poison, and fingerprint analysis gives you a dossier on the woman, who is a Chinese Intelligence operative.

Now zoom out one step. You'll see something by the woman's right hand; click on it. It's a disk that contains information about DEA satellite patrols; apparently that's the woman's part of the transaction.

Now zoom out all the way. You'll notice a briefcase on the left, beside the table. Click on it, then on the lock on the front of it. There, put in the combination you got from the envelope. Examine the open briefcase to discover two million Euros in cash, the man's half of the transaction.

Now you've seen everything there is to see, and can easily solve the puzzle by clicking on the "Submit Answer" button. Most of the information (the people's names, the items being transacted) is already filled in; the only choice you have to make is deciding who came out of this transaction alive. Since there was only poison in the woman's wineglass, she is dead, while the man is alive. Input this into the answer form and click Submit. Voila, you're finished with the demo, and given a promise that the puzzles in the actual game will be a lot harder than this one.

Privacy Policy - Signup

Carl,
In short get ready for a mega-dose of spam and banner ads and popups and the like when playing this game.

- - Question - -
Has anyone signed up and given credit card information to find out what is behind the curtian and what they are charging for this game? (sorry I think that is three questions).

HA

From the Rules page:

Quote:
REGISTRATION: Individuals may register to play TerraQuest at www.terraquest1.com (the "Website"). TerraQuest is divided into six (6) periods (each, a "Game Period"). In order to Play TerraQuest, an individual must register to become a Player and pay a one-time registration fee (the "Registration Fee"). Registration Fees must be paid using either credit cards, debit cards, or electronic checks. The amount of the Registration Fee depends on the Game Period during which a Player registers. The approximate timing of the Game Periods and the corresponding Registration Fees are set forth in the table below. All fees are in U.S. Dollars. The exact timing of the Game Periods will be posted on the Website.

Game Period Registration Fee(in US Dollars)
First $25.00
Second $35.00
Third $50.00
Fourth $75.00
Fifth $100.00
Sixth $50.00

Gah!! Shocked

Well, I hope there won't be banner ads and spam all over the place for those prices.

OK i understand now, thanks Smile

I don't know what say... i've play the demo offline. It seem a good game and it have a good interface. And it's funny for me, i love this tipology of game (like a true adventure graphic).
I don't insert my credit card number for now.

At last, we pay for win (i think so) a very large prize. I think i can to be tolerant for some banner and pop up.

I've fear only for all information they storing on us. I hope credit card number and some crucial information, can to be stored in account bank server, and not on server of mind-quest. If it is, this is a little problem...

a little bummed...

also from the rules:

Quote:
ELIGIBILITY: TerraQuest is open only to legal residents of the United States who are eighteen (1Cool years of age or older at the time of registration and to residents of Australia, Austria, The Bahamas, Belgium, Bermuda, Canada, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Monaco, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom who have reached the age of majority in their respective jurisdictions at the time of registration.

cool, but...

Quote:
DUE TO LEGAL RESTRICTIONS IN SOME JURISDICTIONS, THE SPONSOR MUST LIMIT PARTICIPATION AS FOLLOWS: (A) RESIDENTS OF ARKANSAS, DELAWARE, FLORIDA, AND FRANCE ARE ONLY ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE A GRAND PRIZE OF $125,000; (B) RESIDENTS OF ARIZONA, LOUISIANA, VERMONT, CANADA, AND JAPAN ARE NOT ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE ANY PRIZE.

*sigh* just another day in the Great White North. I sympathize with all the Louisianians, Vermontians, and Japanese out there.

For the rest, have fun with it. It does look like a pretty cool game, but I got out of Majestic because of the subscription fee, and if there's nothing in it for me, I'll stay out of this one as well.

Sad

Sorry, but by anyone's measuring stick, those prices are insanely expensive for an online service. I pay far less than that for broadband, and it allows me access to the WHOLE internet, not just one set of games.

I think I'll take a pass on this one, thanks. Mad

The payment is only one time right? I can join at the first, pay 25$ and i play for entire game right? Not too bad. I repeat, the prize is very large.

If I'm reading that correctly, you only have to pay one of those prices depending on when you enter the game. Which means that if you enter the game at the beginning, you only have to play $25 for the whole game. That equates to less than $5 per period, which is pretty good. Of course, you better enter fairly early, because the later prices (especially that $100 one) are insane.

I think the reason they're doing this is so people don't decide to enter at the end of the game, when everyone else has already done the legwork for the first five periods, and try to win the prize just by beating the last period. Of course, the fact that they would have to do this doesn't bode too well for the organization of the gameplay. I'd much rather have it set up where playing one period would require you to play the ones before it.

Ah, upon more careful perusal of the rules, I see you are correct, Carlitoxxi. Looks like they amp up the amount of the registration fee as you get closer to the "key" game period #5, when the finalists are chosen. I had misinterpreted those numbers to be the fee for EACH game period, but I guess you only need to pay once.

Phew. Well, that's a little more reasonable.

Doing some quick calculations:

Period When One Registers Fee Per Period

1 $ 4.17
2 $ 7.00
3 $12.50
4 $25.00
5 $50.00
6 $50.00

The demo reminds me of a game called Spycraft. In it, you work for the CIA and are tasked with investigating the death of a Russian presidential candidate (which of course quickly snowballs into something larger). You get to use a wide range of nifty tools, including cyphers, photo manipulators/enhancers, trajectory analyzers, and audio systems; and get to travel around to place bugs and rummage through people's homes, even getting into fire fights if you're not careful. The kicker is that you have to use the tools yourself, meaning that if you, for example, choose the wrong nose type in running a face match, you'll get the wrong person, and if you want to find out what was in that briefcase he was carrying, you'll have to track him down and find out.
Unfortunately, the game makes me leave the 'magical' LARS interface wanting to do a little more than I have to. If the real game ends up more like Spycraft, I'd gladly pay to play it, even if I don't win. If it doesn't, I'll just reinstall Spycraft and play that instead, for free.
